Personal Narrative: My Work Ethic
Growing up I had two loving parents, they always wanted the best possible for me. School was always challenging for me. I never liked it, and I never had a good work ethic. It started when I was young, my parents never made me do chores, and they always rewarded me for minimal efforts of work, and it did not help me in the long run. I had a very easy life growing up, but being spoiled does not help when you become an adult. It’s very hard to just gain a work ethic, it takes a lot of time and effort. I guess what changed my way, was when I moved out of my parents house. It completely changed me, and was a huge step towards my education and work ethic. Once you go out on your own, you have so many more things you have to keep track of, especially for me because I have never really done much work. There are so many things you need to do to maintain a house. It was hard at first but with time it became easier, and easier. It made me want to accomplish better things in life. …show more content…

My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal. I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. One of my most memorable experiences as a leader was leading my school’s student section. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. My fellow students didn’t want change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…

My two core values are Family and Faith. My top priorities in life are God and my family. It wasn't hard for me to choose my top two core values because I know that with God and my family I am able to achieve the other things. My family were the first people to provide me with love, happiness, friendship, and wisdom. They have been here for me every step of the way and as I am getting older, everything I strive to be and to do is ultimately to help them and make them proud. Faith is very important to me and that is something that my family has taught and instilled in me. Everything I do is for the approval of God. I have learned that hat God has for me is for me. Therefore, I am able to achieve success, peace, status, and wealth if that is…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…

We learn from our mistakes all the time, sometimes we regret them other ties we don’t. One time I had the chance to have the world in my hands, but I ended up in a hole I couldn’t get out of. I had all the resources right there but never took it seriously. In school I wasn’t always the best top 4.0 student, but I maintained good grades. However, high school came I took everything for granted. I always had the impression of “It’s going to be easy” or you can make it later in the run.” You can’t have second chances for everything. At the end of the day it is all me and I have to be the one going through college.…

“You’ll never make it,” they all said, my boyfriend, family, teachers, and friends. It was like my life was already figured out for me, as if I didn’t have a say. The message was loud and clear. They all expected me to fail, to settle for a minimum wage paying job, to settle for just a high school diploma. For a while I went around believing that all I could do was the minimum required. But then I realized that I was capable of doing so much more. As time went on I realized that I did not have to live up to other’s low expectations and I started making a name for myself. I knew that studying a little harder for every test, joining clubs, volunteering, and running for leadership positions would later pay off.…

“My reasons for college are probably just like everyone else’s. I went to college because I wanted a better life for myself and better myself. I wanted to find a job that I would not be living paycheck to paycheck like my parents had to do when they first got married. I mean, no one wants to live that way? I know for a fact that I did not want that, and that is why I choose to go to college, even more than is the main reason why college was so important to me. Another reason, both my parents didn’t go to college but have archived success in the new world‘s eyes, I believe children from a young age watch and look up to those in their life. Such as word ethic and things like that, yes, they’re times that even with a terrible person to look up to that person becomes a hard working because they want to be the opposite of that person, sadly that does not happen too often. Plus I get to play one of my favorite sport which is track and field.…

I believed that if I had a positive outlook on myself as an individual, I would be able to succeed through any dilemma I faced throughout life. After realizing that I was a senior in high school and time was passing me by, I brought myself back to reality. My college counselor also stressed the importance of my grades, especially to be eligible for scholarships. Since seniors needed three hundred hours of community service to graduate from Metro high school, she made sure that I still devoted myself to service. I had to become a responsible young adult by learning time management. I believed in my goals and I promised myself that I would not regret trying. I stressed that failure was not an option. I became closer to the finish line everyday and I prayed for dedication to reach it. During this time, I learned to put my education first before anything. This was not just an obstacle, but it was a lesson learned. During college I know that there will be distractions, obstacles, and hard times, but it is up to myself to continue to strive for the finish line, and I…

Vacated red-bricked buildings with innocent children sitting at the steps, a passed out man sprawling on the sidewalk, loud Spanish music blasted from a community center, a revolting smell from all the garbage in the sidewalk, people screaming for help, blue lights and a cacophony of sirens—this was my new workplace.…

Bang! The door slammed shut as I made my way down the steps. A musty odor suffocated me as I began to sweat in the heat of my grandma’s basement. Looking around, I noticed that every inch of the concrete floor had an object resting on it. Mountains of rusty paint cans overflowed in the back corner while worn out jackets hung suspended on a coat rack. While I examined the piles of unnecessary belongings, I found yellowed papers, cracked Tupperware, shards of broken glass, and dozens of shoes that smelled like stale crackers. My immediate reaction was that of disgust, and even walking to the back of the room should not have been as difficult as it had been. Astonishment filled my expression of how unkempt the filthy room was, and I decided that my life would not end up the same way. This thought is what sent me briskly home to educate myself of the ways to tidy up my own life.…
