It began as any 9-year-old girl would spend her Saturday, sleeping over at her best friend’s house. My friend Kennedi and I have been friends for a little over a year at this moment, we met in the 3rd grade and when this incident took place, we were 4th graders.
We woke up that morning to breakfast that was prepared by her mother Mrs. Gross. We didn’t necessarily have anything planned for the day, just to play games and watch TV. Kennedi and her family were far more fortunate than my family was. Not saying that my family was poor, but Kennedi had everything as a child, the newest phone, or latest shoes that were out, all the way to having a flat screen TV. She lived in Desoto, Texas which isn’t a bad place to live, and has nice homes. However, we spent the first half of the day inside looking and movies and playing simple board games. It was too the point where we got so bored, we went outside looking for other kids to play with.
Kennedi informed me that there were other kids that lived on her street, but they usually played in the alley. Her mom didn’t want us in the alley because it was an unsafe. I learned to stay with the things I know, I clearly didn’t know how to drive a 4-wheeler, but a did anyway. After my accident, I didn’t want to ever ride a bike, get in a car, or be on the road. Yet, it was inevitable, I started paying close attention to the road when I was in the car with someone else. I had nightmares about being in more accidents, it traumatized me to the fullest. I realized that I can’t just take risks and scare my family while also putting myself in harm’s way. We never know the outcome of a lot of things, so I believe that it is important for us to stay alert and
