When I study, he sits on the bed next to my desk, and when I brush my teeth, he waits outside of the bathroom looking up at me. When I’m stressed from studying, I put my head on his warm body and listen to his faint purrs. Zorro to me isn’t just a pet, he is my companion. In the picture, Zorro is looking straight into the camera lens. That’s the same look he has when he’s on my desk looking at me while I do some work on my laptop. Zorro gives me his undivided attention when I call him, occasionally responding with a tiny chirp. Taking the picture of Zorro will allow me to remember his adorable face, amazing character, as well as his genuine regard for my presence. When I take a picture of a bridge or a building and post it to my Instagram, I think back that night. I realized that I can take amazing photos, and that I have a liking and skill towards photography. I learned that I don’t need a high-end camera to take amazing photos. There’s a common misconception that to take great photos a person needs to have a top of the line camera. If a photo is edited properly, the results are outstanding. Even the camera that I used to take the photo of Zorro is lacking in various aspects, such as the sensor size and autofocus. I typically use my phone to take a photo of a scene or object of interest to me. I would take a picture of my friend in nice clothes to remember the day when he graduated, or I would snap a photo of my quadcopter to remember when I finished building it. One should keep in mind is that in spite of a photo’s quality, its ability to help someone remember an event or person, while telling a story, is vastly more valuable than a high-quality photo of a meaningless object. I’ve taken countless photos of random objects and scenes that I don’t care about to this day. There is no significance to those photos. The picture of Zorro helps me to remember the lessons I learned that night about cameras, and signify the love I have towards Zorro.
