Personal Narrative: The Bridge Pedal With My Dad
It was a beautiful warm sunny day in August and I went on the bridge pedal with my Dad. The Bridge Pedal is a 33 mile bike ride that rides over 10 bridges in Downtown Portland and when we finished I wanted to ride my bike somewhere. Well when we left is when the incident happened and changed my day from good to bad. I had to go to the ER and get stitches. It was a good day and here's my story that changed my day.
To begin the day we got up a 6:30 am and rode our bikes down the hill to get breakfast at subway. After we ate we rode down to the waterfront where the beginning of the bridge pedal was. The bike ride was good, and we finished in about 4 hours and they gave us popsicles at the end. We headed back to my Dad's apartment building to

Then we started down the steep hill and my bike speedometer said I was going 40 mph. I was looking ahead to see if any cars were coming and I came up on the turn to fast and I was braking in the corner which was a huge mistake. My back tire slipped out and I hit the pavement and started sliding but miraculously managed to jump on my bike when it was on it’s side and ride it into the curb. BANG! As soon as I hit the curb I jumped up and looked at my Knees which were a little bloody but I didn't think it was too bad so I got my bike to continue the ride and I felt a bumping when I was riding and realized my tire was flat so we pulled over to look at it. That's when we realized I had a bigger gash then we thought so we went to the fire station which was a few blocks away to get some hydrogen peroxide and they said I needed to get stitches. Unfortunately we had to headed back and dropped off our bikes so we could ride the streetcar to the hospital. While we were waiting I was walking back and forth and I walked like a zombie when I saw this guy walking in my direction. He got freaked out and ran the other

After three days of staying in Alcove Springs fully rested we set off for Fort Kearney. We were moving along platte river for five days everything fine and dandy until I hit a giant rock with my wagon which sent half our stuff in the wagon flying with a big, "clash". I first checked to see if my family was alright, which they were and then I saw the cat who got his tail half chopped of by the trunk crushing it. I decided to chop off the half of the tail that was crushed. As for the wagon, it was just a broken tire. I was lucky another person on the wagon train had a spare I told them I'd pay them…

There was a concert, games, art shops, and fireworks. My sister and I got glitter tattoos and we got to make a sea turtle out of sand. My brother was exploring all the games there was and playing one game over and over again. It started to rain hard all of a sudden when the sun was just out shining bright. Employees were passing out plastic rain coats for us to wear, the rain stopped and soon it became dark. The fireworks display was amazing, with red, white, and blue sparks falling down from the sky. Everyone waved their mini American flag as we sang the National…

When I first started learning how to ride a motorcycle I was very scared. After a while, I started to get the hang of it, but before I could become good, I crashed it into a barbed wire fence. I can still remember that day perfectly. It was a sunny summer weekend right before school started. My brother and I were taking turns riding it. My dad was mowing the lawn and my mom was at work. When it was my turn to ride it, I was doing okay until the second lap. The end of the second lap is where everything went bad. I was in the grass on the side of a hill. I remember getting closer and closer to the fence. I slowed the motorcycle down and put it in neutral, but I was still getting closer to the fence. I should have used the brakes, but at that…

I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…

I didn’t know heartbreak until June 28, when my dad told me that he had stage 4 cancer. I didn’t know fear until August 13, when I found out that he would have to undergo radiation to combat a tumor in his brain. I didn’t know weariness until August 24, when everyone at school talked about how great their summer had been, and I had to lie and say that mine had been fine. I didn’t know how deep my love for my dad ran until June 29, when I wiped away my tears, stood a little straighter, and vowed to help him find little rays of light in even the worst days.…

About a year ago, my parents started fighting, usually over small thing, like where the kids were. But then it got a little more intense, like one time my parents went next door to hang out with the other adults when my mom asked for gummy bears. My neighbors husband immediately got up and went straight outside. About a half an hour later he came back in holding multiple bags of gummy bears, and that’s when it started. That's when my step dad got really red and angry, and then stormed out the door. it seemed he always overreacts every time some guy gave her something.…

One the tow truck finally came and took CoCo, my friend picked my sister and I up from the accident scene and drove us to the hospital. We sat in the waiting room for more than an hour in severe pain, just praying we would be next every time a nurse would come out prepared to call a name. Once we were finally called we were escorted to different hallways due to them not having even one room available. We were in so much pain and only given a cot to wait to be seen by a doctor. After forty-five minutes a doctor finally came, checked me and questioned me resulting in me being sent for x-rays and CAT scans. The results came back and turns out my neck, shoulder, wrist, and back were sprained. The drive back to school at four in the morning was so dreadful with the road being under construction and bumps all down the road. It took almost two months for me to fully recover, which to me was eternity. A few days after the accident, I returned home from school. Being back in Orlando it was time for me to begin working for the summer and realized it was going to be exasperating until I replaced my totaled car. The insurance company gave me back a good amount for a down payment on a new car. But, now it was time to research cars based on miles, color, year, and most definitely an affordable price. I became Déja the car guru with all the research I did on vehicles. Finally a month and half after my accident I found the…

I was soon released from the hospital, and allowed to go home. It is impossible to forget the lousy car ride home. It hurt to sit up straight, so I laid down in the backseat of my mom’s Ford Explorer, and proceeded to watch a movie. By the time I got home, my back was killing me. I was forced to stay on our couch for the next few days, and needed help walking and showering, since I was not allowed to do anything to harm the stitches placed in both of the open wounds.…

On January 16th 2011, I was with my two brothers, Kasey and Brandon, and my sister-in-law, Alina at Wintergreen on an exciting snowboarding trip. We got there around 9A.M. and got right on the slopes. I absolutely love snowboarding and would never give it up for anything. About 5P.M. that night, my brothers and I were in the terrain park going off jumps, grinding, doing tricks, all that good stuff. The weather was very cold, and the slopes were pretty icy, but hey, what could be the worst thing that can happen? Maybe it could be a fall right on my butt, or a crazy wipe-out that could have given everyone a good laugh. Unfortunately it was neither of those. My brothers and I were playing follow the leader, they decided to dodge this jump, little did I know it was the biggest jump on the terrain park. I was going full speed and went off the jump, and then it hit me. I fell right on my back, before I knew it I was in the hospital with a broken back. The pain was absolutely excruciating. I ended up breaking my L1, luckily I was still able to walk, but I had to take it easy.…
