Personal Narrative: The Movement Of Middle Children
Have you ever heard of the movement, “Middle Children Matter”? If not, you are probably not a middle child. Middle children have been left out of the family equation for centuries. The older siblings get all the attention and the younger siblings are babied to the point of being rebellious. The middle siblings are left to their own devices due to little or no attention from their parents. The challenges I have encountered as a middle child have shaped me into the individual I am today. Depression is often linked to feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and sadness. I’ve never been diagnosed as depressed but I’m sure it compares to Middle Child Syndrome. Seeking the attention and praise of my parents has been my life’s motivation. My father spends his time inspiring my younger brother, Parker to get focused and motivated and demonstrate initiative, while my mother revels in the achievements of my older sister, Logan. Everest while I was playing Spiderman on top of my playhouse. Middle children are constantly compared to the expectations of older siblings and the sweet innocence of the younger baby. Anything a middle child does is never good enough. I constantly struggle with this issue because my sister Logan is a genius. She has won many awards in both academics and athletics. Since we share the same DNA, I also am expected to be as accomplished; however, I never was. During my fourth grade year, I had my chance to finally best Logan in her weak area of writing, and I took full advantage of it. I aced my FCAT Writes with the highest score possible, a six, and scored a perfect five in both reading and math. My glory was short lived when my parents barely acknowledged my hard work and were content with my achievements. Yet I was thankful for the low standards Logan set because I realized I couldn’t do it without

She was born on a busy summer night on September 13th 1918 in Brookline, Massachusetts. I always had the feeling that Rosie was a little different from the rest of us. On the day of her birth the midwife arrived late, and my theory is that this action deprived her brain of oxygen. We were proven right when she failed to advance from kindergarten and was deemed to suffer from intellectual disabilities. When this happened our parents began to conceal their third child from society.…

The main point of this article was how depression impacts a child and the people, like their parents, around them. Children suffering from depression often feel the exact same symptoms as those that an adult with depression would suffer from. They can’t feel excitement, they have very low self-esteem, they seem to always be bored, and they also seem to be very sensitive to how people treat them. Sometimes their sensitivity may lead to misconceptions such as assuming that their parents don’t love them or thinking that they are bad people.…

    H. Jackson Brown Jr. once said, “When you can’t change the direction of the wind, just adjust your sails.” I can relate to this quote in regards to overcoming problems in my early teenage years. I grew up with my mother, father, and two older sisters. My sisters are a few years older than I am. Growing up with two older sisters was a struggle but it was especially challenging because they had a gift for athletics and I did not.…

Middle school in Chicago was completely different from back home. One day as I was getting more familiar with the school, I stopped for a minute to take a look at my surroundings, I saw girls dressed in long girly dresses, others having breakfast in the cafeteria while preserving their legs closed and some absorbed in the illusion that they must look good all the time to be the girl they were taught to be.…

As most children grow up, they are aware of their surroundings and take in everything they can understand which adds to their personality and their structure of life. As a child I developed at a level more advanced than the children around me. I learned to use a computer at the age of 3 years old. I read at an 8th-9th grade level while in the 5th grade. In addition, I could handle complex situations better than a average elementary student. The mindset I had as a child unlocked new doors for me. For example, I was not afraid to try new things and accept the lessons that came along with new opportunities. Also, I learned from my parents that going down the path of success isn’t always easy. Lastly, I experienced that life is filled with…

The issue you tried to cover is really unique and good. When I was a child my siblings used to help me study mats, physics and chemistry. They always used to show me step by step and then, they let me practice with several similar questions. That helps me for my present knowledge. I remember there were other children’s whose parents will do their home works for them. For sure they used to get a better grade but I am not sure if it helped them. There for from my own experience it is better to guide them and let them to try and fail; since it won’t hurt them to fail instead it will teach…

Christianity has always been apart of my life. My grandparents, parents and siblings are strong christians and always encouraged me to become one. When I was about four I was at a Christian camp that my family had always gone to and I decided then that I would give my life to Christ. But honestly at four years old I had only given my life to Christ because that's what everyone else did. Through my early teenage years I had lost my connection with Christ. There were so many difficult situations I was going through that Christ seemed so distant from me and what I needed. But turns out what I really needed was Christ. At the beginning of my sophomore year I began to go to Young Life, and what a difference Young Life made on my life. Young Life…

Growing up, I was unalike from other kids, I was "imaginative". During class, I would always by myself, writing bizarre stories with preposterous characters and with an unpredictable plot, while the other kids were playing with their friends. Many of my classmates would be entertained by loony stories, while other kids thought that I was just some lonely nitwit writing absurd stories to make up for not having any friends. In that year I was relocated to a different school, which I didn't want to go because I didn't have any friends at the school, I was currently attending and it would be much more difficult to make new friends. In the following year, I was still that shy girl in the back of the classroom not interacting with anybody, but it…

Ten years old is rough for kids, but what happened to me made those pre-teen years even worse. My parents had been divorced for two years when the unthinkable happened, my dad announced he was getting remarried. I was introduced to the woman named Melissa and her daughter Audrey, but I was unaware that the joining of the two families would impact my life forever. Though the road was not easy, Melissa helped me discover who I was meant to be, and the things she taught me affect me everyday.…

Growing up, most of the children I knew would go to church on Sunday’s, visit their grandparents’ house to bake cookies after school, and have milk and cereal for breakfast every morning. But I had never set foot inside of a religious building, couldn’t even speak the same language as my grandmothers, and ate congee with fermented soy beans like it was the most natural thing in the world. My little town where I’d grown up, made friends, and built memories was, to say the least, completely un-diverse.…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…
