Personal Narrative: The Universal Illusion
The Universal Illusion
“Cosmo Jenkins” What a stupid name, it’s like my parents wanted me to get bullied or something. If you couldn't already tell, my parents are astronomers. They have done a lot of important stuff, but I don’t know what, don’t care that much either. They keep on pushing astronomy on me, giving me a new telescope or star chart every year. I’ve always thought the stars to be quite boring, it’s a bunch of small lights in the sky, big whoop. While I’m not that big into stars, I am pretty good at coding. I can get into your server faster than you can say “Cyber Security”. Overall, life is good. So there I am at school, walking the halls with my friend Chet, he’s going off on some conspiracy theory when he suddenly switches to

Drifting off to sleep I get a weird feeling of pain, yet euphoria. It hurts, but not at all. This experience lasts forever, I also get a feeling of speed and movement. When I open my eyes I am in a very expansive and dimly lit room. The floor has black and white tiles, and there is a chair in the center. As I move towards the chair I get a interesting feeling of slowness, while moving at normal speed. As I sit in the chair it feels very comfortable, as if it was made for me. Sitting in the chair a screen pops up in the sky, and a figure seems to be moving around, talking to other figures. I hear a voice “It blew out? Should we end it? No? Okay.” The figure turns around, he is a male, possibly in his late 20’s, and wearing a lab coat. He has dark spots under his eyes, probably from not sleeping for a awhile. “Cosmo Jenkins, your simulation has crashed, you will stay in this room while we fix it, do not be alarmed, we will erase this experience from your memory.” the voice announces. At this point I just have to yell out “What’s going on? What do you mean simulation?” He tells me “We are viewing your life to see how we can make better decisions in the future, we made this simulation by using part of your dna. This is the year 2506. You, Cosmo Jenkins, are

The sound of beeping awakens you. With difficulty and trouble, you force yourself out of bed, your brain still not yet conscious. You get your uniform and proceed to head to the bathroom to get ready for school. Minutes pass by quickly and you are walking to school, lost in deep thought. For some time now, you have not yet listened to the world around you. As you gently shift your focus towards the world before you, your ears process the sound of anger at its highest level. You cannot believe what you hear. Vexation fills the air and you are now in an ever so dangerous environment. As you turn the corner, the sounds of the shouting get louder and louder. You can now hear loud running. Your eyeballs move to look around and then you see it…

I see myself laying down and looking at the sky. It looked like I was in heaven. When I got up I saw a house. I went inside and saw a paper. It said that my mission is to kill the Ender Dragon. I didn't know a thing about Ender Dragon. I searched the house and looked at the world. the world was made up of blocks. Not one block or two blocks. Thousands of them. Haphazardly I realized that I was in mine-craft. A game that I used to play this game when I was seven years old. I thought that it was only a dream, so I tried to wake myself up. But I couldn't. I still thought that it was a dream and went with it. Near me was a waterfall and some chickens. I went in my house. There was a chest, laying there, and I opened the chest. When I opened…

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you pleased, or do you immediately come up with an endless list of insecurities? As a child one of my favorite memories was laying around the house with my older sister on rainy days. We would leave the windows open so we could hear the rain coming down on the tin roof over our patio, while watching reruns of our favorite tv show “America's Next Top Model”. I always thought that these women were gorgeous and I would catch myself constantly comparing their looks to my own. I wanted to be just like them until I realized the unrealistic expectations that they had to live up to. A sizeable butt and breasts, but not too large; they have got to be proportional. A skinny waist, impeccable hair, blemish free face although even with clear skin you are expected to cake on makeup because no one is actually pretty without mile long eyelashes, the perfect smoky eye, and exemplary contouring. Society has idolized these things as “beautiful” and shamed the girls that do not meet these standards; however, society should be making everyone feel confident in their bodies. Girls need to know that it is okay not to have an “hourglass figure” so they don’t…

The social-emotional domain is most of interest to me. As Humans we interact pretty much throughout our lives, our emotions often play a large role on how we develop socially and how that ties to our emotions. From birth we gradually start to develop these relationships with the people around us. Over time this process of learning to communicate, share, and interact with others takes many years to develops. We continue to develop these skills into our teenage years, and even as young adults. So with that I do believe that the development in this domain is mostly a continuous one.…

I use the advice you gave Dan almost every day. I get teased about my schedules. I just asked my daughter to tell me what we have to get accomplished by ten tonight. She gave me a list of things and I wrote them down. We worked together to plan the order of events to make sure everything gets done. Both of my girls write out list when there are multiple tasks to complete in a day. This shows that it is a learned behavior for those who do not use sequence at a use first level.…

It was morning, but something was not right. I felt strange like my body was not my own. I was in the same room, yet something was different. I got up looked in the mirror and was astonished at what I saw. I felt that what I was looking at could not be a mirror because the images I saw were not of me. I saw a poorly shaven man of about twenty-five staring back at me. He was thin and looked like death had barely escaped him. He was scary, although what scared me the most is thinking about what had happened to…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

At times I feel as though I'm trying and failing to be a human being. But what makes us human? I feel although I'm a human-shaped shell made out of pieces of things I find interesting. Instead of a real identity. Just layers of things that I hope will make me different from others. But am I? We rely so much on the opinion of others. But why? Why do we crave acceptance of others? If people were to look closely, they'd notice there really isn't anything there.Just a mess of a person trying to find their ‘place in the world. All we want is to be remembered. Just to prove we are something , we where something. How will I be remembered? Or will I fade into oblivion? Is this the meaning of life? To spend it hoping we have some significance in this…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. There’s an overwhelming sense of fear. It is as if there were eyes watching me. I begin to get out of the bed. I’m going to open the closet but I don’t want to. I know something bad is going to happen. But I open the door and there’s nothing, but it’s too dark to actually see anything. I lean further into the closet. It’s colder in the closet than in the room. I feel a hand pull my hand off the knob and drag me further in. I fall and I keep falling. I don’t stop falling till I wake up, and it gets colder as I fall. I feel my blood freeze in my veins. It's like the dream’s…

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…
