Personal Narrative: Troubleshooting Firearms
My first week starting troubleshooting firearms was very interesting with some of the knowledge that I already knew with experience and another I didn’t. The area that I think is most common with people that shoot rimfire is that cleaning them and keeping them clean will often correct most malfunctions. There’s not much that can go wrong if you keep them clean. The big issue her is knowing how to disassemble them and reassemble them correctly. Having an illustration usually supplied by a firearm’s manufacturer, aids the owner or a gunsmith in disassembly and an exploded view.
Like any firearm after you disassemble a them and thoroughly clean all the parts, the next step is to carefully examine all internal parts for wear or breakage. One key

The first thing I would do is make sure the gun is unloaded. Then I’d mark the firearm for identification purposes. To preserve any fingerprints and gun powder residue, I would pick it up from the trigger guard or checkered part of the grip. If I find a gun in water, I have to keep it submerged so it doesn’t rust. Lastly, I would place it in a separate envelope.…

A shotgun has a few key parts to it that is necessary to know. All of the components listed below briefly describe the shotgun. Knowing the parts are significant in understanding the weapon. The stock of the shotgun is the base that allows the recoil pad to sit in the arm pit of your shoulder. It provides cushion while firing the weapon. The magainze loading port can store up to two shotgun shells at one time while the third is loaded into the ejection port. The fore-end is like the pump that you pull or push to load/reload the gun. Also on the weapon is a safety and release button located next to the trigger. The safety disables the gun from firing unless it is pushed off. The release button, when pushed, allows the shells to unload from the ejection port with the assistance of the fore-end.…

With recent events such as the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, there has been an increased focus on the role of EMS providers in an active shooter situation. Should EMS wait until the scene is deemed "safe" by law enforcement, or should providers be expected to enter a potentially dangerous scene where the shooter may still be active? It is an issue that has been debated on public forums all over the internet, with plenty of people of both sides of the argument. And while both sides of the argument have merits, I believe there is a solution that may allow victims of a shooting to receive quick and effective medical care without compromising the safety of those who provide it.…

One of the great things about having a well-made shotgun is that they are not very expensive and will usually last you a long time. They are very easy to take care of and you can put many rounds threw them before they need to be cleaned. When you do need to clean them, it is very simple because a shotgun does not have a lot of working parts. So, it is very easy to get a cleaning tool in all parts. A couple of down falls to a shotgun is that your range is minimized to how far you can actually shoot accurately and kill game, (you can shoot slugs threw them around 100 yards, but there are not always accurate and when harvesting game you always want a clean kill). So the typical ammo is bird shot or steel shot, shooting birds from ten yards all the way up to forty yards.…

When it comes to violence, there is one type of violence I think is skyrocketing out of control in Chicago: Gun violence. As residents and I believe we all can agree that it is shame that for the past 5 years or so, gun violence has taken such a toll. Especially, if you were born and raised here. I remember growing when gun violence was not a huge concern.…

Owning a firearm comes with a great responsibility. There are numerous different aspects of owning firearms that the average citizen might not be aware of. One responsibility that is the most important, respecting your firearm. Respect of a firearm means knowing where it is at all times. When you are not using it or carrying it, it should be locked up in a safe, secure place. Typically, the ammunition should be kept in a different location especially if there are children in the house. Respecting your firearm also means that you should always treat it as if it were loaded. Whether you know it is loaded or not, it should always be treated as if it were. Writer Dean Speir wrote on www.TheGunZone.com, the four basic, but most important rules of gun ownership and usage:…

    Old Gas Block Reflection

Over a short period of time, I wanted to upgrade it and make it “my own” in a sense. So first came removing the old gas block. I did not have the proper tools(punch set) and improvised, only to mare up the metal and eventually get the old gas block off. Needless to say, it was an eye sore. What took the gunsmith in the video less than 3 minutes in the video to do took me over an hour. Granted, I did not understand the importance of proper tooling and had a certain arrogance to myself back then. Then came the realization that I had to remove the gas tube, once again, I was at it. I ended up wrecking the gas tube due to my lack of skill and patience. At this point I was frustrated and ended up swallowing my pride and took it to a professional. Of course I was laughed at, but I was also very fortunate. The Gunsmith I went to took the time to explain where I went wrong and allowed me to hang around and watch as she finished my half-assed effort. Ever since then I’ve been infatuated with this skillset. This video hit really close to home for me, seeing how this was my very first experience of working on firearms aside from cleaning…

Snapshots of information about the guns used by criminals are available from official police records concerning the guns recovered in crimes and reports gathered from victims surveys that interview criminal surveys that interview victims of crime.
