Personal Narrative: Wake-Boarding In Lake Michigan
During Summer 2015, I was in the calm waters of Lake Michigan, preparing to try wake-boarding for my first time. My Dad had me hooked up to our rose-red WaveRunner and he asked me if I was ready. My life jacket was pulling on my throat a little bit so I pulled it back down, and said “Yes, let's go!” He took off and I was yanked out of the water! Somehow I managed to stay standing, and we kept going. My wake board was drifting a little too far left so I pushed my left foot forward, thus learning how to align with the center of our wake. Unfortunately, about five seconds later, a wave collided with our wake, forming displacement in the water, and I fell back down. Luckily I was not hurt and I would go on to keep trying for the rest of

Dr. Boggs sets all the equipment up so that we are ready to try the first activity which was wake surfing. The main activity my teammates wanted to do was wake surfing. None of them, including myself, had ever wake-surfed before, but it was one opportunity we could not miss out on. Cole, jumping out of his chair, could not wait to go first. He hopped out of the boat and swam towards the surf board. We all watched as Cole was about to be the first person on our team who would wake surf. “Now Cole there are a couple of steps that you have to do in order to get your board up and surf. First, you must lean back as far as you can with your left foot on the blue line and your right foot on the red line of the board. Next, when the boat starts to move, you have to press down on your right foot while tightly holding the rope with you left hand in front and right hand in the back. Finally, you will jerk forward and began to start surfing, but you have to stay low and on balance.”-Dr. Boggs. Cole was now ready to wake surf. He did all the steps Dr. Boggs had explained to him and he managed to fall face flat into the water. My teammates laughed as he tried to swim back to the board, but all that made me want to do was try it out for myself. Cole fell multiple times and was unable to stay on the board for more than ten…

It was three years ago in May, and my family decided to set out on a trip to the famous Lake Powell. My Turpin side, which is who we went with, consists of a fair amount of people: Grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Lake Powell is a reservoir located on the Colorado River on the border between Utah and Arizona. It was a little over five hundred miles from Snake River to Lake Powell and it took us over nine hours to get there. The drive consisted of my cousins and I sleeping on each others shoulders, and lots of movies since my Grandpa had TV screens in his truck.…

I live in a small city called South Lake Tahoe in the state of California. The people in South Lake consider themselves locals as long as you have lived here for more than 10 years. However, locals consider our city a town. Our town is mainly a tourist town, skiers and snowboarders in the winter and campers in the summer. When somebody moves to South Lake Tahoe, it may only be for a few reasons; to be a ski bum, get out of the bay area, or family. The people that move here either make it or they do not because of financial reasons. It is very hard to make a decent living here. To say it short and simple, a person can move up here with money or they learn to live paycheck by paycheck.…
