“Click, click, click” I stand up after buckling my snowboard bindings and glance out across the horizon. I see the deep blue’s of Lake Winnipesaukee and the cool icy blues over the scattered coves. I look ahead and realize that I am the last one to start down the fresh packed powder trail. Quickly I hop along to gain speed to catch up to my family.…
How would you feel if your parents sent you away to a disciplinary school without knowing the counselors there would beat you and harass you for almost everything you did, and the worst part is your parents didn't even know about it. I’m guessing you’d be very angry with your parents. if you would be angry with your parents congratulations because you have something in common with the main character Garrett.…
Little did she know that a small amount of encouragement from family and friends, she’d be back in the water, surfing as a professional. The important reminder and angle of this story is clear and simple. When you fall down, get back up and get moving again.…
Nature. A form of Earth’s greatest possessions that can be a dreaming site. There are many types of nature, but the water is a type that one can treasure most. Water can be an ocean, river, lake, and so on. One amazing lake to experience is Chautauqua Lake, in New York, because it is an amazing place to do activities, such as tubing. To add, the main character, named Erika, and a family called the Rooneys, specifically Sloane that was Erika’s age, has done the activity, and she had much jubilation while doing it. Tubing can make anyone feel different emotions: it can make Erika happy, it can keep her calm, and it can make her feel excited.…
As I enter Chamberlin Pines Swim and Tennis Club, I already feel sweat forming on my head. Mrs. Emerson, my boss, exclaims, “It is extremely busy today! How has your day been?”…
Dr. Boggs sets all the equipment up so that we are ready to try the first activity which was wake surfing. The main activity my teammates wanted to do was wake surfing. None of them, including myself, had ever wake-surfed before, but it was one opportunity we could not miss out on. Cole, jumping out of his chair, could not wait to go first. He hopped out of the boat and swam towards the surf board. We all watched as Cole was about to be the first person on our team who would wake surf. “Now Cole there are a couple of steps that you have to do in order to get your board up and surf. First, you must lean back as far as you can with your left foot on the blue line and your right foot on the red line of the board. Next, when the boat starts to move, you have to press down on your right foot while tightly holding the rope with you left hand in front and right hand in the back. Finally, you will jerk forward and began to start surfing, but you have to stay low and on balance.”-Dr. Boggs. Cole was now ready to wake surf. He did all the steps Dr. Boggs had explained to him and he managed to fall face flat into the water. My teammates laughed as he tried to swim back to the board, but all that made me want to do was try it out for myself. Cole fell multiple times and was unable to stay on the board for more than ten…
If I don’t have homework for 4-5 days. I think I will go Lake Tahoe and rent a cabin for these nights. I will bring my camera and go there to take some photos. At night, I will stay in the cabin and look through the photos I take to find some good or bad aspect for each photo to improve my photography skill. And I will bring some tea with me, so I can truly relax from the academic stress.…
This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…
There is no better place in the Lake Norman area to party than Horsefeathers Roadhouse and Park. May is the start of summer and the time to get out and enjoy music and great southern style food. It was three years ago in May, and my family decided to set out on a trip to the famous Lake Powell. My Turpin side, which is who we went with, consists of a fair amount of people: Grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Lake Powell is a reservoir located on the Colorado River on the border between Utah and Arizona. It was a little over five hundred miles from Snake River to Lake Powell and it took us over nine hours to get there. The drive consisted of my cousins and I sleeping on each others shoulders, and lots of movies since my Grandpa had TV screens in his truck.…
Every year we go to the lake and we play on the water. We tube on the lake. We play on the water. We just like to mess around. I just got my boater license and I can now drive the boat by myself. But I am too young to pull a tube behind the boat. I will have to be about 18 before I can. I would like to one day pull one of my family members on a tube. Another thing that I like to doing on the water is slalom. Most people do not know what that is, but it is fun. You are rising on one skee. It takes a long time to learn how to slalom. I have fun and I think you can too. You have to have balance and I think you would like goggles because a lot of water gets in your…
Justin and Kenny was having fun swimming in Blue Lake, suddenly Kenny got out of the water, “I need to go home I am going fishing with my grandpa,” he said grabbing the towel and wrapping it around his waist. “I will see you later.”…
I live in a small city called South Lake Tahoe in the state of California. The people in South Lake consider themselves locals as long as you have lived here for more than 10 years. However, locals consider our city a town. Our town is mainly a tourist town, skiers and snowboarders in the winter and campers in the summer. When somebody moves to South Lake Tahoe, it may only be for a few reasons; to be a ski bum, get out of the bay area, or family. The people that move here either make it or they do not because of financial reasons. It is very hard to make a decent living here. To say it short and simple, a person can move up here with money or they learn to live paycheck by paycheck.…
I am Bethany Hamilton. I am a professional surfer and sponsored by Rip curl. I grew up in the tropical Hawaiian Islands. I learned to surf at the age of five. I was attacked by a Tiger shark one morning in the light blue sea. The surgery was on my left arm and it is a short stub at the edge of my shoulder. Surfing was my passion and i didn't want to give up. My parents supported me throughout my attack and new surfing technique. My Dad built a specialized surfboard for me and my new challenge. After long days of failing and hitting the bottom of the ocean floor I wanted to give up. I inspired myself and others through my determination. Through all my challenges and struggles I learned never to give up due to one accident. I wrote an autobiography…
The aquatics program after freshman year was in ruin. In the last three years, coaches come and go and this lack of continuity has led to low spirit and trust in the program. In mid sophomore year, after a terrible coach, Eric Nelson, I nearly quit swimming. After 10 years of dedication and commitment to the sport, I couldn’t believe it. I was going to give up not only my livelihood, but my athletic future in college because of the inability to establish a strong coaching base.…
