Lake Powell-Personal Narrative
It was three years ago in May, and my family decided to set out on a trip to the famous Lake Powell. My Turpin side, which is who we went with, consists of a fair amount of people: Grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Lake Powell is a reservoir located on the Colorado River on the border between Utah and Arizona. It was a little over five hundred miles from Snake River to Lake Powell and it took us over nine hours to get there. The drive consisted of my cousins and I sleeping on each others shoulders, and lots of movies since my Grandpa had TV screens in his truck.
As soon as we got there My Uncle Shaun and I were put on tent duty. We didn’t have a camper, or a houseboat, so the most reasonable option was to bring tents! This side of my family doesn’t go camping much, so I found it very interesting that we were “tenting.” Mostly my uncle set up the tents, since I was about eleven and didn’t like to work. I mean, I still don't, who does? Anyways, because I had my swimming suit on, I found it very appealing to go for a swim. So I stepped in and I did not expect what I got! The water was warm, a whopping 80 degrees fahrenheit! I had never been in water so warm until I came here. Normally we go to lakes/reservoirs it’s usually Island Park, Jensen’s Grove, or American

So we decided to go find somewhere to park the boat for lunch. Eventually we found this really cool cave that had plenty of room to put the boat under, and we got out the sandwich stuff. It’s kind of a tradition we have to have sandwiches when we go boating or snowmobiling. So we got out the bread, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, meat, and pickles along with the fruit salad, and Powerades. After I had finished eating I got bored and decided to go for a swim, so I cannon balled in, and the water was even warmer inside of the cave! I just laid back on my lifejacket and floated, it was so

The University of California, Merced’s Men’s Basketball team was so enthusiastic, as well as full of energy that humid Saturday morning as they prepared for an extraordinary adventure at Lake Yosemite. Each player greets Dr. Boggs, also thanking him for taking his time off from work in the health center to take them to the lake. Dr. Boggs, feeling warm-hearted and comforted, appreciated the well-mannered basketball players and cannot wait to get out in the lake. “I have brought my boat out here today so you guys can get the full lake experience, but I need to go over some safety procedures. I also need to explain to you all what exactly we will be doing today.”-Dr. Boggs.…

If I don’t have homework for 4-5 days. I think I will go Lake Tahoe and rent a cabin for these nights. I will bring my camera and go there to take some photos. At night, I will stay in the cabin and look through the photos I take to find some good or bad aspect for each photo to improve my photography skill. And I will bring some tea with me, so I can truly relax from the academic stress.…

This trip wasn’t like the others, it was a vacation compared to the other high adventure camps. We flew down to Miami and drove to the base, which was in the Florida Keys. The next day we took two warrior canoes, which were canoes the fit about seven people in each, and paddled five miles out to and island where we would stay for the next six days. Instead of hiking or climbing mountains, our trip consisted of tenting out on an island where we fished, snorkeled and kayaked for the next week. My favorite part about this trip was relaxing in a hammock for hours watching the tides change. This was a dramatic change from my two previous summers of hard labor and exhausting hiking and canoeing; but it taught me that hard work pays…

It was the summer of 1991. I had a day off from working at a summer camp in South Lake Tahoe, CA, so I decided to hike Mt. Talac, 10 miles, often running. I chose to hike alone, without water, and I did not check the weather. It turned out to be a hot day with no breeze. I brought a juice box and told myself I wouldn't need more. When I got thirsty, I melted a handful of snow. When I returned to camp, I was clammy, shaking, ash gray, had a splitting headache, and felt nauseous. I looked and felt awful; the camp nurse said I had heat exhaustion. It took over a day to recover. Don't be lazy. Always have plenty of water. I'm lucky I survived that…

As the day was ending and the people were leaving, it was finally my turn to go down the giant water slide again. Holding up my bright sun orange swimming tube I braced myself to jump and hit the ground with a big SPLASH. Flying down the slide I could feel the frigid water pushing and shoving me down faster and faster. When I got to the bottom I was freezing and shivering but I felt exuberant. Standing there waiting for my friends all that I could feel was the arctic cold air attacking my wet body.…

Most of us walked through the front door of Lake Country between 8 and 9 years ago. Others of us came later whether it was 5 years ago or this year. The door we came through on the first day we came was the same door we continued to walk through almost every day, up until today. After tonight this might be the last time we walk through these doors, but some people will keep walking through them even after we leave Lake Country. The front dorrs aren’t just regular doors to us students, they are a gateway to all of the memories. These doors hold behind the first day of kindergarden, pictures that we colored with broken crayons and the place where we met our best friends. From the second grade aquarium trip to the Wizard of Oz play and the mideval…

That day we checked into our campsite in Christmas, Michigan. After we got done setting up our campsite, we went sightseeing along Lake Superior. The water was as blue as the sky on a sunny day. It was a beautiful sight. The water was frigid when we waded across the sand bars and the hem of our shorts touched the water. Next, we went to check in to meet up with a group to go kayaking. Once we got to where we were going, we got on all of our gear to keep us safe and dry, then we set sail. It was hard paddling at first, but then we got used to it. I was with my mom and my sister was with my dad. We went into this cave like thing where a rock fell onto the main rock and made a tunnel. The water was hitting the rocks and the color from the minerals was coming off when we wiped the rock with our hand. We used the rust color as war paint on our faces. When it was time to go back to our starting point, we turned our kayak around and went right over a sunken ship. I was very curious to see it. The sunken ship was really cool, but scary. I thought when we were looking at it our kayak would tip because we were both leaning over the same side. Once we got back to shore, we went fishing. The we headed back to our campsite and cooked our dinner over the fire. That was a fun day, but I was ready to hit the…

It was June 22nd, a beautiful day. The temperature was at about 90 degrees and it was very sunny. I was on big nice scuba diving boat along with the other eight divers on the trip and captain and co-captain. The boat was headed to an island about two hours away called "Seal Island"; it was called that because of all the sea lions that inhabit it. When we arrived at the island the captain stopped and anchored the boat. I immediately jumped in the water and started snorkeling while all the other divers were still on the boat putting on their scuba equipment.…

    The Swimming Pool

In the middle of summer the heat was so miserable that our family had decided to go and cool off at the local swimming pool. It was so hot that day, when you stepped outside you instantly felt the heat and started to drip sweat. The sun was so hot you could feel the heat on your skin trying to turn it red. When we got to the swimming pool you could hear the children laughing and splashing in the water. You could smell the chlorine in the water from the parking lot. Walking up to the red brick building with the tall fence surrounding the swimming pool, we hurried to get inside. Once inside we had to adjust our eyes because of the glare off of the water from the bright hot sun. We quickly found our spot next to a white worn out lawn chair. Looking out at the pool the water looked almost as blue as the sky that day scattered with many unnoticeable heads inside of it. The pool was divided into sections at the front of the pool on each side there were white ropes with blue floats attached to them separating the two feet water from the three feet. At the middle of the pool on the right side there was a short bluish green slide for the shallow end of the pool and another bigger gray slide with water rushing down it for the middle part of the pool. There was also another rope divider that separated the deep end from the five feet water. At the end of the pool there were three diving boards two small and one high dive. You could see all the children splashing and playing in the water while the other kids were waiting patiently to get their turn on the diving boards and the slides. There were a few people lying in the white lawn chairs trying to soak up some of the sunrays. We made sure to put on some sun block so that we wouldnt pay for our day in the sun later. Wiping on the sticky white sun block with its potent bitter smell was a task making sure that we didnt leave any unprotected skin that the sun could get to. Walking up to the water with my bare feet on the hot gray…

The first day on the island we went to one of the many dive shops that dotted the harbor along the port town of Stingray City. Although we were able to book three days of diving, we had to wait until the next day to make our first dive. We were all anxious to do something after the long plane ride. My friend Rex suggested that we go snorkeling in the coral reefs off of Seven Mile Beach. Personally, I thought that it was a bad idea. I was not a really strong swimmer, and we would be alone without a boat to pick us up if we got tired. But Rex and his brother Doug would not let go of the idea and pressured me into going, and against my better judgment I agreed to go.…

Although it's been almost two years now, I can still remember that day as if it were yesterday. We were all glued in front of the television, when dad came rushing into the house after work to tell us that he had just bought a new cabin cruiser. He promised us that the following week he'd take us all on a fishing trip. We were all very excited and happy at the prospect of it. I spent the next few days daydreaming about how wonderful it would be. When the much-awaited day finally came, and dad drove us to the yacht marina, I was awe-struck by the sheer beauty of the boat, shimmering in that hot sunny August morning. After we packed everything onto the boat, dad started the engine and steered it slowly out of the harbour. We headed out until we were a good distance from the shore. Then, when we found what seemed like a good spot for fishing, dad stopped the engine and lowered the anchor. The sky was crystal clear and the sea was as calm as a sheet of glass.…
