A Lot of people go out on the lake every year to go salmon fishing; I am one of them. I go out salmon fishing every year with my grandfather and brothers. I am an avid angler and fisher whenever I get the chance. what happened this day was something I had never expected to happen.

My mother took my brothers and I over to one of my mom's coworkers (and good friend’s) house on the white river. whenever we went there we knew we were either fishing or kayaking. I have never done them both at the same time, but this day, I guess I did both of them.

Floating down the white river being a ten year old, I flew ahead of the group and was just floating when I saw a really

As I stood on the board, I imagined myself soaring through the air, picturing every move I made until sliding into the water as perfectly as possible. I competed as a Springboard Diver for six years. Diving helped me discover and further explore the nature behind what motivates me and keeps me mental strong and capable, which is now an immense aspect of who I am. Although I am no longer a Springboard Diver, it still influences aspects of my everyday life. Diving is unique in how it is more mentally taxing than it is physically.…

Last summer my family and I saw niagara falls, we put on yellow raincoats and rode on a tour boat, maid of the mist , up the river below the falls. As the water thundered around them, the guide told them that Anna Taylor a daring schoolteacher was the first person to ever ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel. My stomach turned upside down as I imagined her plummeting over the edge. Then I thought of our own teacher going over the falls in a barrel, I laughed out…

Cole, Tyler, and our faculty adviser, Dr. Andy Hansen decided that we, as a club, would have a cookout on the Tuck and a learning session for the newcomers to the sport on the fourth. In the days leading up to the fourth I became more and more nervous for a myriad of reasons, the biggest was because I was worried about judgment from my peers. Before I knew it, the big day was here, we made our way to Dillard road, where we were meeting, to find a few of the members standing around. The socializing really helped calm my nerves, everyone was friendly and very easy to get along with, which are my type of people. Soon enough the cookout was over and many of us paired with some of the more conditioned fishermen to teach us the best ways to fish. I made my way down the river with Tyler and three others to a spot that I’d like to call a “honey hole” where there were about fifteen fish in a small area. As Tyler put one of us on a fish he would bring another one of us in to try our hand. Soon after, my turn came around and for the life of me I could not keep a fish on the line long enough to land it. Suddenly, everything changed. I got my hit, I kept the pressure, and I landed my first trout with a fly-rod, it was by no means impressive in size, but I was so proud of that rainbow-colored fish. Ever since then I can no longer wait until I can get back in the water to catch an even larger sized and quantity of…

The trail continued around the east side of the lake entering a gathering of trees forming an insignificant forest along the lake’s shoreline. From our viewpoint, the trees concealing the trail eventually dispersed on the southeast side of the lake, and the trail blended into the landscape. Using our imagination, we envisioned the route against the rugged terrain sloping into the lake. No point in taking a vote now, we had trekked to the lake and the consensus was to proceed with a lap around the lake.…

Arriving at the river, I abandon discretion and resolve that this morning I’m going to wade wet. With my pulse quickening and clutching my rod and fly pack, I venture forth on a quest for one of my favorite and secluded fishing spots. I have a deep interest in the ocean and marine life, which was fostered when my family and I moved to the Pacific Coast. This interest grew further after I went on a backstage tour to the aquarium at the Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Due to this continuous exposure to the ocean and the creatures that live there, I am focusing my education around my interest in marine life. It's for this reason that I’m majoring in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry. With this education, my goal is to become an Aquarist, and build my way up to becoming an ocean or aquarium diver. As a diver, I want to have the opportunity to study coral reefs, and create and implement conservation plans. In addition, I want to study sea turtles and ways to conserve their declining…

It tasted like fishy beach. Texture-wise, it was firm, it wasn’t too bad, but it tasted like beach. A better way to explain is, when you pick up an old seashell at the beach, and you smell something inside it living. You might think it was a Hermit Crab or something, but it might have been a sushi. After I ate the first one, I couldn’t eat the second one; my parents looked at me as if I was crazy, but it was actually that terrible. When I slid the plate over to my father, he gave my mom and my sister the same exact look.…

This was my very first high adventure since I joined the boy scouts, and we were going on a three day canoe trip in the Ozarks. I was so nervous because the trips I had been taking were only day trips, and I ran into a log on one of those trips and almost flipped. We were in deep water too, so no one could help us. So I have had a bad experience with rivers ,but I was determined to conquer the Missouri Current River. I love the outdoors and the creatures that live outside, so I was excited to see that. I was still nervous I would somehow screw up.…
