Missouri Current River-Personal Narrative
This was my very first high adventure since I joined the boy scouts, and we were going on a three day canoe trip in the Ozarks. I was so nervous because the trips I had been taking were only day trips, and I ran into a log on one of those trips and almost flipped. We were in deep water too, so no one could help us. So I have had a bad experience with rivers ,but I was determined to conquer the Missouri Current River. I love the outdoors and the creatures that live outside, so I was excited to see that. I was still nervous I would somehow screw up. I woke up at 5:00a.m. and I grabbed my Dry bag and headed to First Christian Church. We left after loading all the troop gear and personal gear into the bus, at seven o’clock. We started driving; we had a seven hour drive ahead of us. We drove there in a small bus that seated nine, not including the driver seat and the passenger. Two …show more content…
As we were going down the river there was a log in the river it was barely poking out of the water. Everyone avoided the log except for Sam and Jack. They crashed into the log and their canoe flipped and all their gear tumbled out. One of the troop’s bins popped open and some of the cooking supplies fell out and Timmy had to swim and retrieve all the missing pieces of equipment. As Timmy was retrieving everything rain clouds started to form and it started to drizzle then we heard thunder and saw lightning so we had to stay on the beach for thirty minutes until the rain passes. Thirty minutes turned into an hour and an hour turned into two hours. So to pass the time we raided the snack bag and ate almost all the snacks. There was another group from a camp that had to stop on the bank and there was probably 300 kids on one small bank. After the rain passed we were all soaking wet. We were soaking wet all the way back to the canoe shop. Then when we got there we had to pack up and we started home. Another 7 hours back

Working to block threats and support citizens, Campbell recounts the difficulties in overcoming what seemed like endless challenges. As the head of the platoon, Campbell felt responsibility over his men’s lives. Before every combat mission, he would gather his men and pray. It was usually a twenty-word passage from the book of Corinthians. The men spent the next seven months traveling street-to-street and door-to-door in rescue units.…

We wanted to go somewhere we had not been and make it an adventure; we asked some of our friends if they would want to go with us. We decided to go to Fort Fisher and go for the weekend. Our friend Raven was able to go with us and after minimal planning we headed towards the beach. The ride down there was very eventful. We had stopped in Garner to get food, I am convinced it might be the worst town in North Carolina because while there, a man rode a golf cart into the KFC/Taco Bell parking lot, we also witnessed a man being detained by a police officer in the parking lot. When we tried to leave and get back on the Highway there was so much traffic I almost had an anxiety attack. After we had arrived in Wilmington we almost ran out of gas, because I forgot to check to see how much we had. It was a terrifying experience. (We did find a gas station and did not run out of gas though) When we finally got to Fort Fisher, it was really cold and windy there but we still had a lot of fun. We walked around the museum and saw how big the ammunition that was used was; there was a torpedo that was as big as my shin/calf and a canon ball as big as my head. We saw dioramas of the fort being built and later reacted them on the trail. We walked along the trail and halfway through realized that we went around the wrong way because all the signs were facing away from us. We sat on…

Our whole wagon train met at the front entrance and we left Fort Kearney together. It was a nice stay, but we had to keep moving. As we were traveling on the trail, we were stopped by the South Platte River. We need to cross the river in order to follow a stream that heads to the North. We check if there were bridges around the place since the water was shallow, but we saw no bridge. We decided to use the sand bar we saw so we can get across the river. As we crossed the river, Michael almost fell off the sand bar with his 13 year old son. Luckily Curtis pulled him up and we were successfully able to cross the river.…

July 8, 1982, I murdered my first victim. Her name was Wendy Lee Coffield. She was only 16, just a runaway, probably dropped out of school. I strangled it with it’s own clothes. I dumped the body in the Green River. Like my favored outdoor sexual spots, these were some of the locations I also dumped these objects, what I like to refer to these outcast women as. Also in the Green River was the body of Debra Lynn Bonner, 23, Marcia Faye Chapman, 31, Cynthia Jean Hinds, 17, Opal Charmaine Mills, 16, Tracy Winston, 19.…

It was then I had a sudden, shocking realization. Everyone who came, all thirty-five people, were here because of me and my vision to help the community. This project was born because of my idea of helping restore the church property and, hopefully, improve the relationship between the troop and the church. But, this was all mine and I took the helm and guided it through the murky, rough seas to get it to this point. I learned I could be a leader and both adults and my peers respected me, saw my dedication and determination, and followed my lead. This realization brought a smile to my tired, dirty face, and gave me a boost of energy to help me finish off the…

That year when I came to camp, I felt inept to go on hard rivers. Every day when I was on the lake, I was told that I should go be adventurous and go on new rivers. I would never listen and make excuses for not wanting to go on new difficult rivers. I was scared of broadening my horizons because the past year I would kayak on rivers and every time I would flip I would bail out of my boat and not flip back up. This was very discouraging because everyone would have to wait for me while I emptied out my boat and while the counselors had to rescue my boat. Andrew was the person that influenced me to start…

“There is some good in the worst of us, and some bad in the best of us. When we discover this, we become less prone to hating our enemies” once deliberated Martin Luther King jr, a key figure in the American Civil rights movement, and a man that constantly strived for equality in racial-fuelled disputes, a key aspect of that being understanding when to and when not to engage in such dissension. His teaching can be instilled into the majority of conflicts faced in day-to-day life, and how crucial the choice can be when deciding whether or not to interfere. Many people adopt the ‘avoid conflict at all costs’ stance, removing themselves from any discord no matter how large the consequences may be. Admirable as it may be to some, to completely avoid confronting conflict without first evaluating the seriousness of it is simply cowardice, and a complete disregard for the ingrained ethical code branded into humans. Some disputes are so significant, perhaps proving to be seminal for the development of history that neglecting involvement in them could be detrimental for, depending on the scale, mankind or as narrow as personal failure.…

We woke up on October 2nd at 5am and walked to school with all our gear, our tent, sleeping bags, clothes for the trip and all the other utilities we managed to fit in our backpacks. Once we arrived at school, we got into our designated cars and our journey began. Our first stop was a trucker stop where we enjoyed a delicious, finger-licking breakfast. Our second stop, was my favorite stop. It was the ghost town of Ransburg and it was everything you would think a ghost town to be old, empty, and spooky. We…
