Personal Narrative: What I Learned Before Basketball
Currently, my endurance has improved since Late September, however it has not improved to the point that I wanted it to be before basketball. I have somewhat followed my goal of trying to run at the track, but I have been unable to run or workout 4-6 times a week. From where I was at on September 30th I have improved and compared to this time last year I am in much better shape than I was at the start of basketball season last year.
One reason why I may have not reach this goal was setting the bar slightly too high. Instead aiming for quantity I should’ve leaned more towards quality. Having to balance time between schoolwork and exercising also brought a bit of a challenge as my workload has increased since the first month of school. My goal for the future will be to be able to go through a whole basketball practice or scrimmage without having to go out because of tiredness. In order to achieve this

I did poorly at improving this as I’ve noticed little to no change in the pace at which I do homework. One of the possible reasons this may have failed is my plan wasn’t specific enough. All I really said was that I was going to limit distracts but didn’t go into much detail. Although this is slightly effective I should be doing other things besides just removing things that will get me off task. A possible reason why I was unable to achieve this goal could’ve been lack of effort. For me, using electronics and having fun during the course of homework has become a bad habit and I didn’t try to hard to break that habit. One area where I have improved is in time it takes me to take a test. In the past I would usually be the very last one done with a test but now For the future my goal will be to complete all everyday homework, not large assignments in under 2 hours. In order to do this I will set a timer along continuing doing my best at limiting

Life is comprised of a series of learning profound learning experiences. On that stands out occurred last year in seventh grade. Two friends and I decided we wanted to try something new, to learn how to play basketball! We made that decision mainly because we wanted to do an activity together for the winter term, and seventh graders didn't have the option of doing the winter school play. We were very hesitant; only one of us had any experience playing basketball, and we didn't think it would be very fun to run up and down a court trying to get a ball in a hoop. Still we kept an open mind and began to learn how to play.…

When I first arrived at Rotunda D I thought to myself great I get to stand the whole time because there is not one open seat. Dean Nickels started the event off by introducing Scott Naggy, head boys basketball coach. Naggy then talked a little about how they recruit players for South Dakota State University. He then introduced two of his players. The first was from the West side of Chicago, he talked about how he would play basketball to escape from the hardships of growing up in West Chicago. The second player was from Michigan, he explained how basketball was the main sport played in that area. He explained how the teachers there didn't care how the students do in there class they will just pass them to get rid of them. He…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie, and she sounds upset.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…

A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…

To begin with, adding extra study time proved unsuccessful because I would have a hard time focusing because it wasn't something I was in the mood to do, as it was a punishment. As for taking my laptop away, I had a hard time with that as well because I have to do work with it, which would just make me even more unproductive than I had been when I started. After those did not work I decided to turn my focus to the reinforcements.…

I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…

I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

This resolution will help me to focus on the tasks I need to complete instead of distractions such as the TV and my phone. Having lots of distractions only makes it harder to concentrate on work that I should be doing when either in class or at home. Being at home has a lot more distractions than being at school because of pets, family, and access to electronics besides my computer. To limit procrastination and help with the amount of distractions at school I will turn off skype on my computer and not listen to music when doing my work. At home when I am doing homework and finishing up school work, to limit procrastination I will go into a quiet area where I cannot be bothered my family or pets. In addition, to going into a quiet area, I will turn off all technology other than my computer so that I can zone in and focus on my…

The game took place on a cold, November afternoon in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was the last game of the tournament and we, the CBS Falcons, faced the Red Dogs in the championship game. We were confident about our chances of victory; however, our confidence was quickly put to the test when we first saw the other team. This game taught me never again to judge a book by its cover and that effort can trump skill.…

I joined MYB in 5th grade. I wanted more of a competition league after coming from Upward basketball. The first year my team was horrible and everyone went their separate ways after the season. I joined Dave Buffenbarger’s team the following year hoping for a better outcome. A lot of the girls on that team were some of my close friends, and some were not. This was not a problem as we quickly became close. MYB gave me the chance to make new friends through their league and become even closer with my old friends. With a few players always coming and going after each season, I ended up playing for Dave up until my senior year. Being on Dave’s team for so long gave me the chance to grow close to my teammates. Being with my team for many years and…

I was sitting in my freshman geometry class, talking to some friends about injuries. We were talking about how none of us have ever gotten injured in our entire life. I had been playing sports since I was in the sixth grade, and nothing ever happened. In my life I had never broken a bone. I had never even sprained an ankle. I had never worn any kind of brace, taped an ankle, or talked to a trainer about any muscle issue or pain issue. When kids would lay on the court, I always thought they were fine or looking for a little attention. My thought was that they needed to rush off the court because they were dripping sweat all over the hardwood floor, and they were taking too much time up. I used to assume they were killing our momentum when they would fall down and cry because some schools…
