Personal Narrative: NBA Basketball
I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.

The 2000-2002 Seasons were the very foundation of my Purple and Gold affair. My Lakers were champions and Kobe was the superhero. He’d beat the bad guys, save Shaq’s ass in the Western Conference’s Juggernauts: Duncan and Robinson’s Spurs, CWebb and Sacramento Queens, and the Portland Jail Blazers were all victims of young Mamba. Kobe did all those buzzer-beating moves enroute to the NBA Finals were Shaq won all his NBA Finals MVPs at the expense of each of their lowly Eastern

This guy could not be denied. He'd be always be the one with the sense of urgency. Lakers were lackadaisical during the first three quarters and close the deal on the fourth.

Kobe is not a basketball machine, he's an artist on the basketball court. The sun would always set and Father Time would always prevail. But he has left much into me. All my life, I have been following Kobe and the Lakers.

My last picture of Kobe wouldn't be the Banners, the Championships celebrations, the 81 point game nor the Buzzer beaters. My final picture of Kobe was when he had ruptured his Achilles, still managed to walk halfway across the court and knocked down two freethrows. He shook his head and walked away. Kobe's a soldier. He performed his duties even when down and wounded.

Kobe has inspired legions of fans because of his work ethic and dedication to perform. That is what sets him apart.

Kobe, you are the greatest basketball player I have ever seen. #MambaOut #KobeBryant #Retirement

Lebron and Kobe have many similarities. One of them is that they are the most popular players in the league. Some say they are close to being as great as Michael Jordan, but both Lebron and Kobe say they should not be brought up in a conversation that is about Michael Jordan. “The greatest player in the world discussion is saved for a rare few, but Kobe and LeBron have owned it for years. So how did they get here?” (Chad Ridgeway). This quote is a good example of how fans feel about these two premier athletes. They are great unselfish players, they are unselfish because of the leadership they show on there teams. There would not be a better pair to compare than Lebron and Kobe.…

Wilt Chamberlain was one of the best big man the NBA had ever seen. He was considered one of the greatest and later compared to the great Bill Russell as well. He set records that are still set to this day. Kobe Bryant has only come close to one of his records but never passed it. He has done things in the NBA that were considered almost impossible. But that was what separated Wilt from the rest of the league, he was past his time. Chamberlain was the best and most dominant player on and off the courts not only because of his physical size but the size of his moral and character as well.…

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant may play the same sport, but both have different perspectives on how they play the game. First off, Kobe has more experience in the game, compared to LeBron. Kobe began to play in the NBA (National Basketball Association) in 1996. Which makes him more experienced with the game and his team. Whereas there is LeBron who started his career in 2003. He may be lacking in years but, that doesn't make Kobe to be a better player. Kobe has his way of playing as does LeBron. Kobe prefers the “pick n roll”, as LeBron enjoys the “slam dunk”. Kobe is more defensive, as LeBron is more offense. No 1996, Kobe was everything. To being called the “Black Mamba”, to being known to have his shifty moves in like of the Great…

Though both Kobe and Lebron went to the NBA straight out of high school, and being two of the league’s best all around players who are lethal threats which must take an extraordinary game plan to defend. Although, Lebron James is young in the league of NBA basketball, he has the ability to shutdown most all-star veterans. Lebron’s attitude towards basketball hasn’t changed a bit from his high school career. Even though he is in the pros, his mentality is still teamwork. In a game like basketball you can’t do everything by yourself. Many may think he is a one man team or a ball hog but, his attitude towards the game makes himself stand out. On the other hand, Kobe Bryant has had a few more years of experience than Lebron James. In the beginning of his basketball career his attitude was similar to that of Lebron James’ current one. After a couple of years of playing with the same team and winning a variety of championships, his outlook on the sport began to change. Many in which caused controversy with his…

Lebron James, the best basketball player in the world at the moment but there is one name that he will never surpass: Michael Jordan. Lebron can arguabably do everything on the basketball court: he can shoot, he can play defense, he can rebound, he can make is teammates better, and he is (freakishly) athletic. However, there are reasons why he will never be called, “The G.O.A.T – greatest of all time”.…

Klay Thompson is about 6’7 and can shoot the blood out of a ball, If he gets hot he will not miss from anywhere on the court. Klay averages about 22.1 points in the season, and some games he will put about 40 along with his splash brother Steph Curry. Klay Thompson could take over a game in a second if he wanted to and he has. Klay and the Golden State Warriors were down in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the camera went to him and a light bulb came on in his head, he lifted his head up , took his forearms off of his thighs and went back on the court in a serene way. They got a turnover and he sprinted down the court and pulled up behind the three point line and it hit the back of the rim and fell through the net. That shot had to start something new, every time he came down court he could catch and shoot, could bring the ball down and pull up, either way it was going in and they ended up winning the game. That was not the only game he’s done that , he has multiple games where he was 70% or higher from the three point line. As said earlier Steph and Klay are the dynamic duo. Steph is the best jump shooter in the league right now and he puts up 40 plus points in games. Steph has the record for most three point shots made in a season right now, he can come down court and pull up at the most unexpected moments and that is one of the big reasons he got the MVP award last year. Steph made 402 three pointers in his last season for the record of most three’s in a season. Kobe Bryant is a hall of famer now and a former shooting guard for the Lakers. Kobe had a lot of games where he couldn't miss and he was just unstoppable in every way. His most memorable game was his 81 point game. The Lakers were down by as many as 18 points in the third quarter and Kobe just lost all patience. He put up 51 points after the Trail…

His mentality for greatness is off the charts and his passion for excellence is the passion that every player should have in the game or in any matter for that case. In his career, Kobe has an average of 83.8 percent from the free throw line, ahead of Jordan, and also a 34.1 percentage from beyond the three point line, which is also better than Michael Jordan's percentage (Drake Oz). A lot of people look at MVP awards and national championships to decide who is the best and things like that. Michael has 5 MVP titles while Kobe only has one, but they are overrated and misleading (Drake Oz). Kobe has had much better seasons than a lot of former winners of the MVP award. Example, in 2006, Steve Nash won the MVP of the league. Nash had a great year, but Kobe put up monstrous numbers and had a fantastic year with the Lakers. You cannot base the potential of greatness off of awards. Yes, they help your confidence and your reputation as a player in the league, but they do not define your greatness and ability that you may have to show. Michael has also won 6 championships and Kobe is only at five, but Kobe is most definitely not done playing either. The age-old argument against Kobe Bryant used to be that "he only won three titles because of Shaq. Well, fast forward to 2010, and Bryant has more titles (five) than Shaq (four) and was the star of those two teams while Shaq played second fiddle to Dwyane Wade. Not saying Bryant would have won all…

As the 2013 season began to move on, the Lakers were not doing as well as they planned to. With an injury to their all-star point guard Steve Nash in the first game of the season, the Lakers were stuck because now they didn’t have a dominant point guard. It was all up to Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard to score. Now everyone knew how Kobe played, he would shoot an insanely amount of shots every game and even though he does make a good percentage of them, it was not enough to bring the Lakers to victory. Kobe was not passing the ball enough therefore no one else was really scoring on the team. Kobe is good but he cannot do it all.…
