Lebron James, Will Never Be The Best

Lebron James, the best basketball player in the world at the moment but there is one name that he will never surpass: Michael Jordan. Lebron can arguabably do everything on the basketball court: he can shoot, he can play defense, he can rebound, he can make is teammates better, and he is (freakishly) athletic. However, there are reasons why he will never be called, “The G.O.A.T – greatest of all time”.

NBA Championships One of the most important things that you have to look at is, the difference of NBA rings each player has won. Great players aren’t always judged by their talent, but at times judged by what they have achieved in their career. Lebron finally won his first NBA title in 2011-2012 season with the Miami Heat (nine years in the league at the age of 27), creating the buzz, could Lebron now be in the conversation as the greatest? Michael Jordan ended his career with six NBA titles – his first coming seven years in the league – while playing in the league for fifteen seasons (Jordan, The Biography Channel). Yes, Lebron is still only 28 years old and has many more years in the league. The question is though “how many years can he compete on the top level?” As time goes on he won’t be able to do all the things he is able to now. Especially with the rising of young talent: Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook (No relation), and Derrick Rose. All these young superstars are in their young twenties.

Different Era of Basketball Like everything, sport evolves and so does the game of basketball. Times were different when Michael Jordan played in the 80’s and 90’s; back then you could actually hit somebody and it was only called a foul and not a flagrant like it is today (a flagrant foul results in getting fined). Jordan had to play against some of the biggest and badest names in NBA history such as Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwan, and don’t forget about “the bad boys” – the whole

He was the overall third draft pick in 1984, behind Hakeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie. The Bulls’ games lacked support from their fans, and they believed that they might even go out of business. To their advantage and surprise, Michael Jordan brought everyone back to their games and created a new world of basketball (Berger 61). In total, Michael scored over thirty-two thousand points averaging about thirty points per game. He played his position as a guard well, but was great on defense too. He grabbed over two thousand steals and eight hundred blocks in a span of nineteen years (Michael Jordan’s Biography). Another remarkable quality was his high intensity and hyper-competitiveness. As a rookie in the NBA, most people did not expect Michael to go so far. He worked hard with one of the best coaches of all time, Phil Jackson, and led his team along with him (Stein). His opponents believed that it was not even fair to play against him since he was unstoppable. One of his opponents, Michael Cooper from the Los Angeles Lakers, said, “There’s no way I can stop him. As soon as he touches the ball…He goes right, left, over you, around and under you. He twists and turns. And you know he’s going to get the shot off. You just don’t know when and how” (Berger 68). This proves how Michael gave an impression of an almost a God-like man when he…
