As a matter of fact, having those skills are essential in Psychiatric Nursing. I have learnt that in order to grow personally and professionally as a nurse, one must expose oneself to situations that necessitate possessing the skill that one lacks. In doing so, one can implement achievement orientation through the most challenging yet effective methods of all: facing one’s weaknesses head on (Goleman, 2000). My goals for continued professional development as a future nurse is to first identify the areas and skills that I am lacking in. Subsequently, I will attempt to put myself in situations that necessitate exercising those skills that I am lacking in. I acknowledge that having this approach will likely put me in very challenging and stressful situations throughout my career.
