Reflection Environment Ethics
The session on the Environmental Ethics challenged me to understand the various issues involved in the Environmental Ethics for any given organizations. There are many aspects of the Environmental Ethics that need to be addressed by organizations like– Deep Ecology, Animal Rights, Conservation (Ethics of conserving depletable resources), Pollution, and others. Organizations may not be sustainable long term if they do not take care of these areas. There is always a tension between whether the environment ethics directly is the responsibility of the corporate world or not. Looking from the business prospective environment ethics is the last thing on the minds of business executives as they all are focused on increasing their profits at whatever cost. In the process achieving their profits they have compromised many of the environment ethics. These compromises go undetected as the consequences can be quite hard to detect and directly link to an organization. I was challenged from this session that we need to take responsibility as an organization that we must not compromise in any way in this regard.
Coming into this class I didn’t really have much of an opinion on these issues. Animal protection and environmental protection seemed so much out of touch with my own personal interests and I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. I appreciate Dr. Hinnenkamp giving broad overview on this topic and explained various views related to environment ethics. Through the session I have been able to learn about many environmental protection philosophies as well as animal protection philosophies and been exposed to different views on these subjects. As a result, I am now able to formulate my own opinion on these matters and successfully argue my position to other environmental conscious people. This experience considerably reinforced my original position on these issues and today I view myself as
