Personification In An Island Figurative Language

This was presented by the narrator at the not so early,but still beginning of the book.The use of a simile if found when using like or as to compare two different things. Personification is also used as it gives a lifeless thing the qualities of a living being.The velocity of the fire was compared to the squirrel’s agility in the trees and then the fire itself became the ‘squirrel’ going from branch to branch,invading the trees. This imagery and personification are used in order to give a better description of the fast expansion of the fire throughout the island. The description gave the feeling as if the fire moved freely and with agility,just as squirrels do in their known trees; then it grows as a jaguar, and finally it is a place, “savage
with smoke and flame”. In a way this is foreshadowing of both the savagery and fire that is soon to come;the last line translates this,it symbolizes the future savagery and destruction.
