Women play such an important role in todays society but without pivotal moments in history women in Australian politics such as Julie bishop wouldn't have been able to make an impact on Australia in the way she has. Australia was the second country in the world to give women the right to vote and the first to give women the right to be elected to a national parliament. Our state, the state of South Australia, was the first parliament in the world to grant women full suffrage rights. Julie Bishop is the first female to serve as our foreign minister, in this position she has reached great achievements. Just recently her involvement with the missing flight MH17 showed not just Australia but the world that a woman is quite capable to deal with international crisis’ like these. Would families of the victims of that flight been fought for as much if a male was in…

1.North American Continent Boundary: The North American Continent Boundary is where North America used to meet the pacific Ocean. Until subcontinents (Example:Northern Cascade Subcontinent, Okanagan Subcontinent) latched onto our continent and made most of Washington. The North American Continent is also slowly moving west due to Pangea breaking apart. That means that the Pacific Ocean is slowly getting smaller and that the Atlantic Ocean is slowly getting bigger 2 to 3 inches per year.…

Antarctica. The coldest driest and windiest continent on the planet. It is a vast cold sheet of ice that’s over 4 ½ kilometres thick, contains 90% of the world’s ice and 80% of the world’s water. The lowest temperature in the world has been reached there, −89 °C, at the Russian Vostok Station. Due to the Antarctic circumpolar current, Antarctica is an isolated desert and has gone from a tropical climate to the freezing wilderness that it has become. The ancient Greeks were the first to imagine ‘Terra Australis’ (‘Southern Land”), but it was only seen in 1820, and the first person set foot on it in 1821. It only receives a minute 200mm of annual precipitation and even that mostly along the coast. Creatures that live that live on this inhospitable place are extraordinary; they have adapted to the harsh challenges of living on Antarctica and have unique characteristics that you don’t see in other places of the world. The total area of Antarctica is 13,829,430 km2, to put that into perspective, that’s 58 times the size of the UK! Antarctica has and will always greatly affect the rest of the world and that’s why we are so in awe of it.…

It is a popular opinion that the World was once a supercontinent called “Pangaea”. At this time there was only one ocean called “Panthalassa”. The pieces of the supercontinent were giant plates that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Through years and years of continental drift, the giant jigsaw pieces became the continents of the world we know today. The splitting apart of the continents gave way to new oceans. The continents continue to drift today. Our oceans are constantly moving. The Atlantic and Indian Oceans move apart one to six inches a year. While the Atlantic and Indian Oceans are growing wider, the Pacific Ocean is shrinking. The Red Sea is widening too, one day it might be called the Red Ocean.…

Paul Fussell once said, “All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes, but tries new places all the time.” Going around the world would be a fascinating goal for the future. Meeting new people and getting to grasp what the world is like . Traveling would be interesting to do in the future because first I can challenging myself, second the adventures, and third to appreciate life.…

Antarctica is the most untouched part of the world, making it immensely beautiful, breath-taking and bejeweled with miles and miles of twinkling ice. Antarctica lies on the Southern front of the Antarctic circle. Right at the bottom of the world, the closest place to Antarctica is South America. It is 7900 miles/12'700 km away from the UK and has a land area of 14 million sq km! Temperatures in the summer can edge their way up to just 5 degrees Celsius and during the winter, the main temperature is about -30 degrees celcius, but they can fall below 60 degrees easily. Antarctica is shaped like an upside-down bowl (being on the curve at the bottom of the Earth), so all the wind that comes from inland gets faster and faster as it travels towards the coast. These extremely fast winds are called katabatic winds, and they can get up to around 200 mph! Also, Antarctica is classified as a desert, because it has absolutely no precipitation in the form of water. The only form of precipitation is in snow. Coastal areas can get the equivalent of 8" of water annually in snow, and inland areas can get about 2".…
