In an article from Huffington Post, Claire Greaves, an individual with anorexia states how she felt imprisoned by her eating disorder. Greaves states in the following quote, "I feel so trapped, so isolated, so alone. I am imprisoned by my eating disorder and screaming in silence. I’m terrified that there isn’t a way out." Greaves isn't the only one who feels trapped, many individuals nationwide suffer from an eating disorder and don’t know how to escape from it. prison.
It's devastating how a society like ours can cause people to harm themselves in negative ways. Individuals with eating disorders often times isolate themselves from people and feel like there's no hope. Reason being, these individuals are in pain and suffer from mental problems that usually has to do with negative comments from society. From my experience, having negative comments thrown at me on how I looked made me feel hopeless. Back in middle school. I got bullied and was called fat and ugly, but I didn’t let that get to me and I stayed strong throughout that phase. A lot of individuals don’t have the strength to stay strong when they encounter a problem on body image.
Conclusion
As human beings, we have all experienced the cruelty of the world we live in and how difficult life can be. Because of that, us as a society should make a commitment to be kind to one another. If we all committed to that, there would be a decrease in eating disorders across the nation. Our society dosen't realize, but saying you look beautiful to someone can turn their life around for good. Eating disorders are a huge problem nationwide and we should get everyone across the nation to commit to be kind to each other and stop hatred once and for all.
