There are dozens of crimes that can happen to a child in foster care. The government needs to be more careful on who gets the kid and makes sure to do a background research. “Over time the most egregious abuses of the system were corrected, but the underlying principle remained: children who themselves, or whose families, …show more content…
needed assistance were farmed out to families whose main qualification was their willingness to take such children in, either to provide labor or, later, in exchange for a low stipend from the government.” "Point: The Foster Care System is Flawed and Should be Eliminated." Foster program. There are different people who want kids for variety of reasons, and as horrible as it sounds its not always for the better. This article continues to point out flaws of the foster care program that people do not feel comfortable to address. Children are being treated like prizes, only for work and somebody's own game. Some are probably safer staying in the program than leaving it.
Social work is a field i want to go into and that is why i feel this is important to mention. “Social workers are social service professionals committed to improving the social and behavioral lives of individuals, families, and communities.” Flynn, Simone Isadora. "Social Worker." Salem Press Encyclopedia, January. This speaks volumes. This relates with foster care because as hard as it can get they will always have somebody by their side and it wont be somebody completely heartless. It'll be someone that has devoted their whole life to helping another's. To let their problems become their own and try to understand every situation a child is put in. Kids in the system need help mentally and physically to get to the finish line, and social workers are the people to walk them through every step.
Adoption is the most important part of the whole system.
It's what can destroy or save a life. “Foster-care adoption is the process of adopting a child from the foster-care system. This system places children in the custody of a state institution, group home, or certified caregiver until a permanent adoptive home can be found.” Sheposh, Richard. "Adoption." Salem Press Encyclopedia, January. EBSCOhost. “Home” is the word that gets to me, a lot of us have it and don't appreciate it as much as we should. Some days we come home yelling and blowing up on whoever says a word to us but we dont think about it too much. How somebody else is wishing that he or she can come home into the arms of a parent and get asked repeatedly how their day went. They wouldn't blow up either, chances are that what we get mad about on the daily they'd be happy about. They're not showered with affection, it's quite the opposite actually. A lot of parents would also prefer baby's and toddlers which leave the kids 7-13 and 14-18 having to learn how to be independent. Adopting someone into your family shouldn't matter what age they are, saving a life has no age limit and that's something everyone has to
recognize.
These topics point out the damage and help you can do. Adopting a life isn't only for the people who cant have kids or for LGBT folks, its part of being human. It's having the chance to be somebody's hero when their world is full of villains. If we live in a warm and loving home but can still get mental illnesses and suicidal thoughts imagine somebody who doesn't have a home to come to? At least not a proper one. We get lonely, we feel abandoned by loved ones and more often than sometimes were not strong enough to deal with it. But foster care kids are the strongest people out there because they were not only abandoned by love but by the world.
