Persuasive Essay On Illegal Immigration

“The U.S. spent nearly $18 billion dollars on immigration enforcement agencies last fiscal year, more than all other law enforcement agencies combined” (Thomas). The biggest problem we have with immigration are illegal immigrants. We are spending billions for security at the borders, but we are still having trouble to keep illegal immigrants out. Illegal immigrants increasing the crime rate, bringing over unwanted goods, and are costing our economy billions. With all the money the United States spend on the security, they need to propose a different plan, or strategy, to keep out illegal immigrants. According to J. Christian Adams, illegal immigrant’s crime rate expose how serious the problem is and make the government look bad. “The explosive figures show illegal immigrants are three times as likely to be convicted of murder as members of the general population and account for far more crimes than their 3.5-percent share of the U.S. population would suggest” (Zimmerman). More than half of illegal immigrants being arrested are
released, instead of being deported back to their homeland. In fact, there are millions of criminal aliens roaming around America. The numbers are outrageous. The U.S. needs to take control of the amount of illegal immigrants emerging into the country. Illegal immigrants are bringing over unwanted goods, such as drugs.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), have come to the conclusion that majority of the increased drug-trafficking activity is due to an unprecedented influx of foreign nationals into the state. “A 2006 study by the House Committee on Homeland Security warns that the Mexican cartels have essentially wrested control of the border from both the U.S. and Mexican governments” (Taylor). Drug smuggling is one of the biggest problems we have at the borders. Illegal immigrants are coming to the U.S. bringing in these unwanted goods, and are increasing drug-trafficking in many states. Nevertheless, most of these drugs coming over are killing Americans. The more drugs come into the U.S. means the more drugs people have in possession. The amount of security we have at the borders are outgunned and outmanned by the drug cartels, so we are unable to stop various
situations. For the most part, illegal immigrants are taking money from our economy. Illegal immigrants are coming to the U.S. and getting free education, free healthcare, and taking jobs from Americans. Many illegal aliens, such as Mexicans, pay next to nothing on tax. These Mexicans send billions of dollars from America to Mexico (Jones). Being that, most illegal immigrants need money to send home to their families, they are willing to take jobs under minimum wage. The companies that are hiring these aliens do not have to pay taxes on them. So what they make doesn’t go back to our economy. Granted that, money isn’t being sent back to the economy, Americans are having to pay more taxes. Americans are having to pick up the dirty work that illegal immigrants are making. To be considerate, people say that illegal immigrants are helpful. To an extent immigrants are helpful because they will work for minimum wage and will do hard labor. Some Americans have sympathy for the illegal immigrants because they think that they are just wanting to come over here to make a living and have a better life. If that was the fact, they need to become a citizen. Immigrants coming to the U.S. illegally are only hurting our economy. They are sending the money they make back to their country and our taxes go up. In conclusion, the United States is a country that people can come to and live freely. We provide healthcare, education, and many other things that benefits people. People understand why immigrants want to come to the U.S., and we give them an opportunity. But, immigrants are coming illegally. With them coming illegally our crime rate has gone up, unwanted goods are being brought over, and our economy is being hurt. Due to the fact that these events are happening, we need to take control and put better security at the borders.
