Persuasive Essay On Screen Free Week
I sit at my desk; my leg bouncing up and down. I am staring at a blank piece of paper, driving my thoughts away from the essay I should be writing. I could have been listening to music, or checking an email for school. But no, I was sitting in a boring classroom, waiting impatiently to be saved by the bell. All due to Screen Free Week. Screen Free Week is a movement that enforces a rule in May, that for a week you are not allowed to use computers, tablets, phones, etc. I am unsupportive of this, for many reasons.
I am not in favor of screen free week because many studies have shown that children do well in school when using technology. Such as in; ‘iPad a solid education tool, study reports’; “In a partnership with Apple, textbook publishers Houghton Mifflin Harcourt performed a pilot study using an iPad text for Algebra 1 courses, and found that 20% more students (78% compared to 59%) scored 'Proficient' or 'Advanced' in subject comprehension when using tablets rather than paper textbook counterparts.” This implies more students did better on a test when using technology rather than a textbook. Although, there is a possibility of cyberbullying on social media, there is a bright side to it. In ‘The upside of selfies: Social media isn't all bad for kids’;by Kenny Wallace says that teens feel more confident and outgoing “According to a report last year by the nonprofit child advocacy group Common Sense Media, one in five teens said social media makes them feel more confident, compared with 4% who said it makes them feel less so.” Also, over half of the students surveyed said social networking made them more outgoing. Therefore this proves social media can improve one’s confidence and
