School uniforms have been a popular debate for years. Should we have them, should we not? Recently the school uniform rules have been changed and I find them simply outrageous, also most of these rules focus on girls; Skirts. Girls have been made to wear their skirts knee length. Why is this the case when most, if not all, girls hate wearing long skirts? The answer is boys. Us girls have to wear longer skirts to make sure they do not get distracted. We have to cover more of ourselves to keep their hormones in control. Disgraceful! To be honest, this is mostly the pupils fault as it has been passed down generations. Society has generated the idea that a boy cannot even think about participating in performing arts without being seen as inferior to his other male peers and the likewise with girls participating in subjects such as D.T. Marks and Spencers bank has topped high street current accounts and is doing extremely well. Pre-tax profits in 2013 were £117m and it has now got 3.7 million customers. Stereotypically banking is seen to be a man’s job however at Marks and Spencers 50% of the senior staff are all women. This just proves that any gender can do any job or subject and succeed just as well as the opposite gender.
Sexism is an issue in schools that most teachers and pupils unaware of, but this needs to change. As a teenage girl in school, I have witnessed and experienced sexism, it’s horrendous and, in my opinion, needs to be eradicated. If a male member of staff is informing me that I need to “keep the boys hormones down by keeping my skirt down” then he is sexualizing my body and therefore that member of staff is inappropriate and students need to be taught that this is
