bullies need to be stopped because they could hurt more people than anyone thinks and the first place authorities should start with is school. Students who have commit cyberbullying should be suspended from school because they mentally destroy a student’s mind, they could strike again, and they do not know the consequences of cyberbullying. Students should be suspended from school for cyberbullying because they can mentally destroy a student’s mind.“As on teenager stated: ‘It makes me hurt both physically and mentally. It scares me and takes away my confidence. It makes me feel sick and worthless.’.”( Gale Opposing Viewpoints). These emotions compel the victim to feel like they are all alone and that they do not have anybody to talk to about all of this because they may think it only happens to them. Other research has revealed links between cyberbullying and low self-esteem, family problems, academic difficulties, school violence, and various delinquent behaviours (Gale Opposing Viewpoints). Adding to that, they then start closing off on people like their friends, siblings, then sooner or later they stop talking to their parents and just cut off the whole world. Like regular bullying, cyberbullying can have serious consequences, including depression, anxiety and suicide and teens are often afraid or embarrassed to go to school or be seen by their peers (Gale Opposing Viewpoints). They start to feel like the whole world hates them and nobody cares and start feeling like they are of no value to this world. Sometimes when the victim feels like they have had enough of the tormenting and harassing they revert to their last resort, which is sad to say, self-harm or suicide. These students should be suspended because they do not know the consequences of cyberbullying which channels that they could strike again.
According to the passage, Friedman wrote, most people feel like theses kids are low-key getting away with murder in a way which goes beyond school authorities(Friedman, 45). These bullies are pushing these kids to do things to harm themselves in ways i can not even imagine, and they are committing suicide because hateful and harmful things they have said online. Bullies nowadays know that physically harassing these students will get more bystanders so they go online where they know they cannot see a reaction from the victim or any bystanders (Friedman,42). In many schools, they do not ever pay any mind when things like this happen online so people think that they can get away with it. So many kids may not consider cyberbullying as bullying until they fully understand how it can affect the other person (Battista 2014). Some kids just think that they are just joking around with their peers, but do not know how much it is hurting the other person inside. Children and teens in this generation still need to be educated about what cyberbullying, bullying, and harassing …show more content…
is. On the other hand, people may say that people who commit cyber bullying should not be treated as if they did a crime.
“ Drew posed as online as a teenage boy and tormented a woman named Lori. Birdnow says ‘although Drew’s behaviour was reprehensible, there is nothing inherently criminal about it’...” (Friedman, 45). In this situation, Birdnow thinks because Drew did not say that Lori should kill herself or threaten her that she was being a jerk and made a stupid decision to harm herself. Another person's opinion is that the school does not control the internet, this person believes that the school should not deny a student's right to an education based on something that isn’t school jurisdiction (Debate 2013). This person is saying that the school should not worry about cyber bullying unless something drastic happens which means they are probably waiting for someone to die first before the school enforces its rules. Someone else also says that cyber bullying has nothing to do with school, and they think that if someone is harassing them, it is a preference to block the person instead of sitting there looking at it feeling sorry for themselves (Debate 2013). Some people think that if someone is bothering anyone online, it is your job to deal with it because it is not happening on school grounds, so they do not think it affects people. According to research so far most people believe that cyber bullying has absolutely nothing to do with school and leave the rest to the
authorities because they think the victim can handle all this harassment. Cyber bullying is degrading and popular with this generation and kids who commit this should be suspended from school. Students who do this should be suspended from school because they can mess with a student's mind and make them feel depressed or have anxiety. Also, they may strike again because they really don’t know the consequences of what they are doing. Everybody has their opinion of what schools should do for these students, but honestly, people should put themselves in the victim and the victim’s family’s shoes and think of the pain that family feels about wanting justice for themselves and maybe others.
