Holden runs away from all his responsibilities. Holden got kicked out of 3 schools before attending Pencey Prep. Then he flunked out of Pencey Prep after a year of being there. One reason why he doesn't apply himself at Pencey was because he said that he was surrounded by phonies and morons. Holden was talking to one of his old history teacher about Pencey.
