Why do homework for 3 hours when you have been at school doing work for 7 hours? Having all of this homework puts great stress and is the primary source of stress of kids. Kids should not have to do homework at home when we go to school for 6-7 hours a day and do work all day. When kids go home they should be able to enjoy their free time and not have to worry about homework 24/7.
At school kids do work all day, so why should they need more at home? It is proven, homework causes greater stress and makes kids worry more. 56% of students considered homework a primary source of stress according to a survey by Stanford (Parker). So with all of that stress of homework and schoolwork, it makes it a lot harder for kids to enjoy their free time. In schools all around the U.S. kids are starting to get homework at a very young age. A 2007 Metlife study found that 45% of students in grades 3-12 spend more than an hour doing homework (Ryan). If schools are giving more than an hour of homework a night not only does it cause stress, but …show more content…
it cuts into family and free time. Kids are getting way too much homework these days, schools need to cut down the homework and give the kids free time and family time that they need.
All of the hard work that kids do at school is enough, they need to have their free time.
A survey from Stanford and student responses indicate that too much time on homework meant that students were not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills. Kids that are getting a lot of homework do not have the time or rest they need to meet their developmental needs. Studies have found that schools tend to roughly follow these guidelines: The University of Michigan found that students ages six to eight spend 29 minutes doing homework per night while 15-to-17-year-old students spend 50 minutes doing homework (Ryan). If students are spending 30 minutes to an hour of homework even at a very young age then that is too much of a push for homework. Most kids try hard at school all day, if they are doing their best work and spending their time wisely they need to have the free time that they
deserve.
Afterall homework can promote a higher level of achievement and reinforces learning that the kids have learned at school. Homework can also teach or improve your study skills. Yes homework may promote higher achievement but it is proven that it causes more stress and takes away from family and free time. I highly think that while having homework “may” reinforce learning, but kids do not need more work to do at home after they have done work at school for seven hours.
Unquestionably kids should not have to have near as much homework as they do these days. Afterall, homework is proven to have greater stress on the kids and takes away from their free time, family time, and their social life. So why should we give students more work after they have worked all day at school when all homework “might” do is reinforce learning and promote better study skills? Kids need their precious time with their family and friends outside of school and not have to worry about if they have homework or not. Homework needs to be cut down or done away with for good.
