Introduction
Get audience attention: Attention all Faulkner State University Students. Commuters are you tired of a long boring drive to Bay Minette to attend your daily classes. On-Campus residents are frustrated with being stuck on campus when you can not drive or get a ride off campus.
Indicate purpose and thesis: Today I plan to unleash a cutting edge three part transportation system that will mobilize the students, faculty and staff of Faulkner State University. I am going to persuade you the students to push the administrators to initialize this transportation system Establish credibility: Crossing the Mobile Bay alone on each class day has given me a lot time to reflect. Once I visited my cousin …show more content…
at the University of Alabama I was amazed at their transportation system which included a bus system and an escort service. This reflection sparked an idea that would greatly help our university. That 's why I adapted most of my plan according to the Transportation Services listed on ua.com.
Preview Main Points: First I am going to talk about the current transportation system and why it is ineffective.
Secondly I will go over my three part transportation plan. Lastly I will express the benefits of the new transportation initiative.
Body
I. First I am going to go over the current transportation system. A. Today students commute to the university by car or the BRAT system. According to Faulknerstate.edu, Through the Baldwin Rural Area Transportation System (BRATS), students who live in the Baldwin County area can take advantage of free transportation to and from the College B. The BRAT system was designed to bus students from the Baldwin County Area to the University. C. There are several reasons why this system why this system is ineffective. 1. The BRAT system is not widely publicized therefore people know little about the routes. 2. The founders of the BRAT route failed to extend routes to Mobile which makes up most of the commuter population. 3. Overall services are limited with the system they only have certain pick up and drop off times and only run in Baldwin …show more content…
County.
Transition: Now that we have addressed the BRAT system and it 's limited accessibility, we can now focus on the future of Faulkner State 's transportation system.
II. The new three part transportation initiative will be the what take this university to the next level. D. The first initiative of the system is a bus system that will consist of the BRAT system and two additional pick up locations in Mobile. 1. The first pick up will be the Government Street McDonalds. The second pickup location will be at Bel-Air Mall. 2. Buses will run every hour from 6a.m. to 7 p.m., Five days a week. 3. Admission per one way trip will be $5. 4. Students must be able to provide up to date student ID. E. The second part will be an escort service that will be conducted like a overnight taxicab. 1. The vehicle type for the program will be a 8 or 12 passenger van that will carpool students there destination on or off campus. 2. The escort service will available between 7pm and 6am daily. 3. Admission for on-campus trips will be $1.00 per one way. For off-campus admission will be based on the mileage and market rate for gas. 4. Students must be able to provide up to date student ID. F. The last part of the initiative will be a student and faculty carpool system. Why a carpool? According to erideshare.com carpool is a "Mother Nature" network that allows us to socialize, save money and gas all while saving the earth 's resources. 1. The carpool will be governed by a carpool portal website similar to erideshare.com where students and faculty can signup for rides. 2. Rides will take place Monday through Saturday from 6:30 am to 9:00 pm 3.
For registration into the carpool system each participant will pay a $5.00 fee per semester. Also drivers and riders will split gas equally between the number of people in the car. 4. Drivers and riders must also undergo a background check, have a good driving record, insurance, parking decal and student ID 5. In November 2005, the United States Environmental Protection Agency issued a hand book on how to implement a carpool in organization. In the future, using this handbook the University can implement more incentives for the students and faculty.
Transition: Now that you have heard my transportation plan lets move on the benefits of my plan. III. There are so many benefits not only to the students, but also to Faulkner State University. G. The expansion of the transportation will improve the quality of life for commuters and on-campus residents. 1. Commuter students will save money on gas, and be able to make friends on the bus. 2. Commuters also will be able to come to school if they suddenly have car trouble. 3. On-Campus residents will also be able to get on and off campus even if they don 't drive or have a car. H. The most important beneficiary will be our
school. 1. This system will help the university grow because more people will attend school if they had a reliable means of transportation. 2. According the Forbes, When asked why their company chose a bus system Google CFO commented “we’d have issues about parking, amount of parking available, which would cost a ton of capital to make sure the infrastructure is there." Thus this reduction in cars and drivers on campus will reduce the number of parking lots and spaces will make more room for new class buildings or dorms.
Conclusion
Signal the End/Review main points: In conclusion I have went over the current transportation system, explored a new transportation system, and expressed the benefits of the proposed new transportation plan.
Reinforce purpose: Please push for the Administrators to implement this transportation initiative.
Provide closure: Together, we can enrich our student life by saving time and money all while making new friends. Happy Commuting!
