Yes, Peter the Great took new ideas and brought them to Russia, but these “new” ideas were not his own. He took them from the Western part of the world. Basically, he took the ideas and made them into new ideas for Russia. He did not preserve much of the fundamental Russianness of politics and social life, because all he cared about was turning his military into a powerful unit. After many defeats by Sweden, he was driven with passion and anger. Trying make them the greatest country without preserving their old ways. He was in some was harsh, but he did what he thought was best for his country.
