DBQ There have been many governments that affected civilization. A government is in charge of making sure the society is stable. Two great examples of these political figures are Russia under Peter the Great, and Germany under Adolf Hitler. Both of these bodies of government showed Change, Propaganda, and military power. These three things impacted their society in a big way, and the decisions there leaders made. Change affected the Society's actions in a big way. Peter the Great did just that. Peter the Great also made significantly changes to the military. For example, he gave authority to all social classes to participate in the military. {According to Doc. 2}. This was the first time that serfs joined the military and became soldiers. Since the serfs have joined the armed forces, the military has a more dynamic of rich and poor on the military now. Peter has greatly changed the society in how he westernized Russia, and impacted Russia in a big way. Adolf Hitler, and the Nazis used propaganda because they wanted to convince people of doing things their way, even if they were not correct. Adolf Hitler was a genius of using propaganda in his favor. In 1929, Hitler hired Josef Goebbels as his minister of propaganda. They conducted huge political party rallies to build support. They were highly organized, and included banners, and marching bands. By using their skills they appealed patriotism to the German people. Hitler created youth movement for the purpose of those creating loyal subjects to the state, {According to 4B}. By 1935, they had over 3 million boys and girls, at the age of 10 and older. Peter the Great actually came up with the creation of the army in 1699. All soldiers received the same training. Peter also came up with the creation of the navy. They had 48 ships, and 800 galleys. The officers in the navy were foreign, but native to Russia. When Peter the Great made big changes to the military reform, like expensive military forces to keep their permanency, new recruiting methods, and spreading military obligations, {Doc. 2}. With all these changes to the reform, makes the military more dominant that he wants, the bad thing about this is, and there is a high tax on all military things. This is the part that hurts the society. During the wars the tax is tripled for the citizens. Peter the great also made more important decisions like social classes, and social relationships. This got more servants and recruits to join the military. Hitler also had very powerful military forces. Hitler's philosophy was that, Germany should fight wars to gain land, raising large families for casualties, and provide soldiers for the next war of expansion. Hitler had very good strategies to attack the west in 1940. He was originally going to do it in 1929, but due to bad weather he had to postpone it. Hitler's strategy was not just to kill everybody, but to take away everything they got. For example, Nazi student went into libraries, and burned the books. More than 20,000 books were destroyed in Berlin. Their goal was to
