Geology
Geology is basically the science which is related to the study of the origin of the Earth including the history and its life, the materials that made it up, the structure of the materials and the processes acted upon them. It also deals with the study of the organisms that have inhabited the planet and the structure of a specific region of the Earth involving the rocks, soils, mountains, fossils and other features. The word geology was first known used in the year 1735 which is according to Modern Latin geologia “the study of the earth” where geo means earth and logia or logy denotes a subject of study or interest. In Medieval Latin, geologia was meant “study of earthly things” as it is distinguished from arts and sciences that concern of the works of the God. The word gē from geologia is originated from Greek which means earth whereas logia means study of or discourse.
Knowledge in geology gives insight into the history of the Earth formation and its structure by providing the primary evidence and theory related to plate tectonics, the evolutionary history of the living things and past climates. In recent times, geology is found to be commercially important for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration or exploitation also for evaluating water resources. One of the well-known related disciplines to geology is economic geology which it is concerned regarding earth materials that can be used for economic and/or industrial purposes including precious and base metals, nonmetallic minerals, construction-grade stone, petroleum minerals, coal and water. Furthermore, economic geology also can be separated into petroleum geology and mining geology where these fields related to the exploration and exploitation of a specific and certain substances out of the surface of the earth. Petroleum engineering especially is the study of the origin, occurrence, movement, accumulation, and exploration of hydrocarbon fuels which refers to the
