The sculpture attracted my attention and I was captivated by the details that went into it. The first thing the caught my attention was the blades at the feet of the flacon. The jagged blades really stood out to me because it wasn’t something that I would normally associate with a bird. Next were the thick and sharp claws of the flacon that showed how ferocious this animal could be. The large claws of the flacon to me showed that it could be beautiful but a ferocious animal at the same time. The leather strap was also very human like along with the blade on the head and nose which gave it the look of a human general who was about to lead an army into battle. The lighting in the room also really focused on the different unusual aspects like the blade and leather strap but the shadows that it casted across the body of the falcon gave it a darker presence while the large shade of the wings across the body gave it a sense of beauty. To me this piece of art really conveyed how beauty, ferocity and power could really come together. The purpose of this sculpture to McCracken was to show the beauty and ferocity of nature all in one piece of art.
