John wrote a book called Two Treatises on Government. He believed that everybody is born with natural rights. Natural rights are the right to life, liberty and property. He also believed that the people had the right to overthrow the government if they didn't protect their natural rights. John wrote in his book “being equal and independent no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possession.” Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a French philosopher who wrote The Social Contract. He believed that men in the state of nature is blessed with an enviable total freedom. He believed in two types of freedom, freedom from need, and being physically free. He also believed that the government should work for a common good. The scientific method is a step by step process of discovery requiring the collection of accurately measured data. Francis Bacon was an English philosopher who wrote Advancement of Learning. Bacon popularized the scientific method. He used it with philosophy and knowledge. He stressed observation and experimentation. Nicolaus Copernicus was a polish astronomer who studied in Italy. He wrote a book on the revolutions. Copernicus believe that the Earth revolved around the sun instead of everything revolving around the Earth. His idea was called the Heliocentric theory. Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer. He wrote a book a book about his discoveries called Starry Messenger. Galileo was the first person to observe Saturn, craters on the moon, sunspots, moons of Jupiter, and discovered that the Milky Way is made up of stars. Galileo proved that the Earth moves around the sun. The inquisition forced him to take back his heliocentric
