Photosynthesis: The Process Of Respiration In Plants
If you are not a microbe, a human, or an animal, then you are most likely plant. Plants and trees cover about thirty percent of the planet’s surface, as stated in NASA’s Earth Observatory division. They use a process called photosynthesis, which allows plants to take energy from the Sun and later using it as food, as well as producing oxygen through the process of respiration. So how does it happen? The process of photosynthesis occurs as follows.
First, the plant uses the sunlight and the green color in their leaves to make sugar from carbon dioxide, or CO2, which is in the air. At the same time, the soil provides water and important minerals that are absorbed by the roots. This “food” is stored, while some of it is consumed. A curious fact, plants are the only living things that are capable of producing their own “food”, while also being able to be used as food for humans and animals.

The plants nourishes because of the energy that the sugar provides to it. The oxygen that we inhale is created by them, and in turn, the CO2 is created by humans and animals when they exhale, as well as cars. After that, respiration occurs during the night. Respiration is the process where the plant releases the oxygen into the atmosphere through its leaves. Finally, photosynthesis is a natural process necessary for the plants, while also necessary for humans. This process is something that occurs every day and every night. It repeats itself endlessly until the tree or plant dies. The trees and plants are important because the oxygen that we humans have been breathing since our birth was produced by them each day.     Photosynthesis and cellular respiration play significant roles in existence of all living organisms on the planet. Supplying energy to the cells they carry out is the main process called life. Photosynthesis is the process by which several living organisms such as plants and bacteria utilize sunlight and several raw materials such as carbon dioxide and water to produce sugars and release oxygen into the atmosphere. It does not only supplies oxygen which required for human life but it is also the primary source of food energy for all forms of life, directly or indirectly. Cellular respiration is the process of converting food molecules such as glucose into energy in the form of ATP. In this process, oxygen is utilized and carbon dioxide is produced. Carbon dioxide, required for photosynthesis by plants is replenished by carbon dioxide released in respiration. Similar to oxygen required for respiration is replenished by oxygen released in photosynthesis. Thus, photosynthesis and cellular respiration compliments each other to help maintaining the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in nature. Three differences that exist between these two chemical processes is that photosynthesis captures sunlight energy to make food for the plants and other organisms while cellular respiration extracts energy from food molecules. Another difference between photosynthesis and respiration is where it occurs, one being in plants and some bacteria and the other being in most every other living thing. The last difference is cellular respiration processes are divided into processes that require oxygen and those that do not require oxygen while the processes of photosynthesis are divided into those that require light energy and those that do not require light energy.
