Pierre Renoir was born on February 25th, 1841 in Limoges, France. His parents were Leonard Renoir and Marguerite Merlet. His father was a tailor and his mother was a dressmaker. The family moved to Paris due to financial issues. Renoir’s talent was recognized very early on and was put to use. Renoir quit school and worked in a porcelain factory and decorated plates. Not soon after, he began to work with his brother by painting fans. All throughout this, he frequently visited the museum, Louvre. When he went there, he studied eighteenth-century art masters that ended up inspiring him his whole life.

He became less attached to the impressionists and became unsatisfied as to what his style looked like. The figures that he painted lacked form and looked slim. He gained new inspiration by looking at older paintings. Renoir traveled to Algeria, Italy and the southern part of France. He made many great works while he was traveling, including “Dance in the City” and “Dance of Bougival”. He began to paint in a more classical manner and outlined many figures to make them stand out more. In 1890, Renoir settled down and married his long-time girlfriend, Aline Charigot, and had three kids. As he got older, he developed arthritis in his hands. He wanted to continue painting, so he strapped the brushes to his hands, and made the art as he normally would.
Renoir died when he was seventy-eight when he died in his home in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France on December 3rd, 1919. He left hundreds of pieces of artwork. He painted until the day he
