Piggy Diary Entry Essay
Dear Diary (entry two), things have not gotten better; in fact they might have worsened. Ralph called a meeting to discuss how nobody was doing his assigned tasks, and instead they were running wild or playing around. Then he threatened us saying that if we do not keep the signal fire we will be stuck on the island with the beast. I do not know how I feel about the beast but I do know that it is causing me a lack of repose. The stories the littluns have told about the beast sounds pretty compelling, however I don’t presume there is a beast. Piggy told me that “Life id scientific, that’s what it is…I know there isn’t no beast” (Golding 76). Piggy is extremely intellectual, so if he said there is no beast there mustn’t be a beast. I do have an uncanny feeling that if there is a beast it is Jack or he is secretly doing something malevolent. I do sense a tension between …show more content…

Yesterday Ralph, Piggy, and I were assaulted in the night. Jack and his hunters buffeted us, and during the whole process they stole Piggy’s glasses! He needs them to see so we stormed over to Castle Rock to ask for them back. Then the worst thing happened…they rolled a boulder onto Piggy and he was killed. Over the past weeks I had grown close to Piggy and once he was murdered I had finally understood it all, Piggy was the one who smiled at me during the first meeting. I had then remembered him pulling me out of the crashed plane while I was half passed out. He had saved me and I stood there and had watched him die. My mom used to tell me that I didn’t have a temper and wouldn’t get mad (wow once I speak of my mom I realize I have forgot about other life on the Earth). I am angry though; I abhor Jack for killing my friend, he deserves the worst. I still remember Piggy saying, “Which is better–to be a pack of painted Indians like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is?” (Golding 206), Piggy had always stood up for Ralph and I had admired

Piggy had always thought of Ralph as a friend, even when the feelings weren't mutual. No matter what Ralph said or did to him, Piggy always followed his orders. When Ralph fell into a state of depression, Piggy was at his side consoling him and reminding him of the big picture. Simon always looked for the good of the group and thus chose to stick with Ralph. His morals wouldn’t let him join the evil camp of Jack. Unlike Beowulf, Ralph had nothing to give to his companions. No gifts, no rewards, and certainly no food. On the other hand, the sadistic Jack ensured everyone's loyalty by providing fresh meat and protection from The Beast. These were all things Ralph lacked for his followers. But then why did Piggy and Simon not abandon Ralph in a heartbeat? It’s because they had a something everyone else lacked, intelligence. Piggy and Simon showed their loyalty to Ralph simply because he was a sane and just leader. Unlike Jack, who only craved for power and the display of…

The date was June 14, 2034. I was flying to London, England with my private jet. It was a beautiful day. The clouds were puffy and white, the sun was shining, and there was no wind. Then all of a sudden, there was a lot of turbulence. The plane was going crazy going left, then right, then back to the left. My pilot told me to not panic and that everything is going to be fine, but I was having cold feet. The turbulence became so wild, the pilot announced that the plane will have to land on the nearest ground.…

When Ralph approaches Jack’s tribe and blows the conch to call an assembly, we learn that the conch has lost its power among the boys. The conch represents order, and without it there is nothing to keep the boys in line. Even in his final moments, Piggy is still trying to get the boys to see reason. As Ralph is getting heated with Jack, Piggy attempts to get his attention and says “Ralph – remember what we came for. The fire. My specs.” After Piggy’s death, Jack orders Roger to torture Samneric into joining the tribe and makes the decision to hunt Ralph down and kill him. Piggy dying meant the absolute end of trying to reason with Jack’s tribe and any hope of peaceful civilization on the island. He is the parent figure and the reminder of moral among the boys, and once he is out of the way nothing held them back…

Diary Entries: Harold Henry Abbott Enlistment: 10th March 1915 I can not believe I have actually done it. I have officially enlisted myself to fight for Australia in the war two days ago, it still quite has not sunken in what I have done. To be quite honest I was reluctant in my mind to do it at first. Reason being is I am quite comfortable back home with my job of being a Brushmaker.…

He comes up with countless ideas as to how to improve life on the island and the way to go about doing that. After the fire started by the hunters consumes most of the jungle, Piggy emphasizes that “The first thing we ought to have made was shelters down there by the beach” (45). In the beginning of the book, as Ralph finds the conch, it is Piggy that instructs Ralph in how to blow on the conch and make the sound that makes Ralph the “man with the megaphone” (7). More importantly is the role that Piggy plays as an adult voice on the island, a voice that the boys grow to resent. “‘Grownups know things,’ said Piggy. ‘They ain’t afraid of the dark. They’d meet and have tea and discuss. Then things ‘ud be all right” (94). It is this adult view of life and how he asserts his opinion that shapes the way Ralph ultimately begins to think and govern, and in a certain light, why he fails. Piggy believes that rules should be strictly followed, and this totalitarian view is shown when he tries to stress the power of the conch when speaking before Jack on Castle Rock. It is this effort to remain true to the ideals that the island was founded on, his ideals that were formed from intelligence and reason, that get him…

“The rock struck piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee”, and he fell off the cliff and died as the conch “exploded into a thousand white fragments.” (181) Piggy died after trying to help everyone and did nothing really wrong or against anyone. Piggy died an innocent death just like Simon because he had done nothing wrong but stand up for himself. He had tried to help Ralph all the way until he died and had helped Ralph realize what was happening. Thoughtful and smart, Simon was dragged along by the littluns to get the fruit “they could not reach”(56), then Simon “passed the fruit back down to the endless, outstretched hands”(56) of the children. Simon is nice and thoughtful, he had done nothing wrong and was just helping out the littluns and Ralph. Simon is like a mocking bird because he did nothing, but just trying to help out as much as he could, yet he still died innocently when the hunters mistook him as the beast. After trying to get Piggy's specs back and Piggys death, samneric are left with no say against Jack yelling,”what d’you…

He uses his ability of charisma which touches most of the boys, and he eventually uses force as a means for the others to join his tribe. From the time that Ralph got voted over him for chief, it was a forecast of Jack becoming a savage. Piggy is the complete opposite since he follows rational thought. Jack's savagery prevented him from coexisting with Ralph, but Piggy's civilized behavior allowed him to basically be the adviser for him. He happens to look back at his past and past values in England which Jack does not do. Jack is violent, and it clearly showed when he broke a lens of Piggy's glasses intentionally, and also the scene where he brutally killed a sow. The lord of the flies symbolizes the power of evil which exists within Jack and his savage tribe. Piggy, on the other hand, is peaceful. With all the chaos going on near the end, he is still loyal to Ralph. The part where he was killed by a boulder is a possible example of how he sacrificed himself in order to save Ralph. In general, Piggy is a good-hearted, peaceful, and civilized human…

    Eulogy of Piggy

Piggy was a thinker, the smartest kid I’ve ever known. It’s ironic to think that of all the boys, I knew Piggy the most and I do not even know his real name. I hurt’s me to think that I did not realize Piggy’s intelligence until it was almost too late. When we first met I laughed at him and teased him. If I could go back to that first time we met I would have probably still laughed at his confession of being teased as Piggy, but I would still want to know his name. Unfortunately, I will probably never know his true name, and even if I do I will never be able to call him by it. All the time on the island I really took Piggy for granted, his thoughts, his opinions. In the back of my mind I thought they would always be there, how wrong I was to think. I remember that first day clearly, it was far before most of us had spiraled out of control. While we were still innocent and naive. Piggy had seen me and he was the first boy I met on the island. We walked along the beach and found the conch shell that soon came to symbolize our new found society. Piggy had to tell me how to use it because of his asthma. He was the only boy at school with asthma and specs. I guess Piggy was always different from everyone else. Using the conch as he told me I blew and thus a meeting was called, the first meeting. The meeting was anything but organized, yet there was Piggy taking people’s names, the only one smart enough to think of knowing how many of us there were. But even he didn’t get that far, I didn’t give him the chance too. Later on when we set a bunch of dead wood on fire using Piggy’s specs and when Piggy noticed one of the younger boys or litluns was missing, I acted uninterested though deep down I knew I had failed that boy as chief. Piggy cared though, he made sure we were all clear on that, maybe he felt guilty as it was his specs to light the flame. But whenever he had tried to make things heard he was always opposed, mainly by Jack and even myself at times. I think that…

On more than one occasion in the book Piggy has been the one to come up with a rational understanding of what is going on and his opinions were just pushed to the side. Piggy says, “‘That little ‘un- him with the mark on his face, I don’t see him. Where is he now?”’ “The crowd was as silent as death.” (Golding 46). Piggy is the only one who notices that the little ‘un is missing, making Ralph and the others feel awful for their irresponsibility with the fire. Piggy also is discriminated against by Jack because of his blunt truth against Jack’s actions of neglecting the fire. Golding writes, “ Piggy began again. “‘You didn’t ought to have let that fire out. You said you’d keep the smoke going-”’ “This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence.” (Golding 71). Jack ends up striking Piggy in a rage, symbolizing his rebellion to the rules of Ralphs…

There are many characteristics that are unique to a civilized person. One of the many character traits include contributing to the common good of the community. Piggy is a perfect embodiment of this key trait. During the fierce dispute between Jack and Ralph over supremacy, Jack asks the group of boys to vote Ralph out of the leadership position, however they refuse to do so. Enraged, Jack leaves and announces that if anyone would like to join him, they are welcome to. Following Jack’s departure, Piggy was more than delighted. In fact, Piggy was so “… full of delight and expanding liberty in Jack’s departure, so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society, that he helped to fetch wood” (129). After Jack outcasts himself, Piggy…
