Piggy's Letter To Lord Of The Flies
Rationale:
This written assignment is based on William Golding’s novel “Lord of the Flies.” This novel tells the story of a group of English schoolboys whose airplane crashed on a deserted island after being shot down during war. With no rules, the boys start dividing into several groups, some of which are organized, and some messy. After a certain period of time, leadership becomes a competition and the boys would fight over power and leadership.
In this task, I intend to write a letter from Jack (the leader of the hunting group, that defected from Ralph during the plot, the villain) assuming he went to prison, to Piggy’s aunt, since his parents are dead, expressing sorrow and regret over the way he acted on island where he and some of his

He was one of a kind, when we first woke up from the ugly incident we faced, Piggy found a tool known as a conch, I started using it in a silly way and started to play around with it, Piggy then popped up and used this conch in a useful way where he managed to gather us all around, he believed in unity, order, and discipline. Piggy’s ideas were of tremendous benefit, first the conch, then the makeshift sundial idea that helped the boys in telling the time. He also sacrificed his vison for the sake of saving himself and the children by building a signal fire using his eye glasses, he also suggested that we all unite and work in organized groups to build …show more content…
We then shifted into killing people for POWER!! I think that we deserve death penalties for doing this. Piggy was a symbol for innovation, social responsibility, order, and most importantly sharp insight. He was the closest thing to an adult we had on the island, I think that all his ideas were motivated from his desire to be accepted by the guys, one of the old guys, and not being considered as what they so-called the “ugly fat

I met Ralph today. He seemed like a nice person so I told him my nickname was Piggy when I was back home. We went down to the beach together and found a shell on the beach. We used it to make a trumpet which called the rest of the boys down from the woods to the beach. This is where things went bad, Ralph apparently doesn't keep secrets too well. Ralph told everyone that my nickname was Piggy. They haven't let up on the name either everybody thinks that it's so funny to call me that. It doesn’t trouble me too much but I’d rather them not call me by that name.…

It seems the boys start to see Piggy as just another animal, and he is therefore killed as though that’s just what he is. The interesting thing is that the boys, because they kill Piggy, sort of become animals themselves. It’s a slippery, slidey, downward slope of atrocity. But animals aside, there’s another key point in Piggy’s death, and that is that the conch dies with him. The conch is smashed into thousands of pieces, which is about as close as an inanimate object is going to come to dying at all.…

As the tension between Ralph and Jack increases, we see more obvious signs of a potential struggle for power. Although Jack has been deeply envious of Ralph’s power from the moment Ralph was elected, the two do not come into open conflict until this chapter, when Jack’s irresponsibility leads to the failure of the signal fire. When the fire—a symbol of the boys’ connection to civilization—goes out, the boys’ first chance of being rescued is thwarted. Ralph flies into a rage, indicating that he is still governed by desire to achieve the good of the whole group. But Jack, having just killed a pig, is too excited by his success to care very much about the missed…

When Ralph approaches Jack’s tribe and blows the conch to call an assembly, we learn that the conch has lost its power among the boys. The conch represents order, and without it there is nothing to keep the boys in line. Even in his final moments, Piggy is still trying to get the boys to see reason. As Ralph is getting heated with Jack, Piggy attempts to get his attention and says “Ralph – remember what we came for. The fire. My specs.” After Piggy’s death, Jack orders Roger to torture Samneric into joining the tribe and makes the decision to hunt Ralph down and kill him. Piggy dying meant the absolute end of trying to reason with Jack’s tribe and any hope of peaceful civilization on the island. He is the parent figure and the reminder of moral among the boys, and once he is out of the way nothing held them back…

Children without adult supervision become murderers. Teenagers who are the victims of bullying become murderers. Lord of the Flies shows how this can happen. Like every rule there is an exception. “I just take the conch to say this. I can’t see no more and I got to get my glasses back. Awful things has been done on this island. I voted for you for chief. He’s the only one who ever got anything done. So now you speak, Ralph, and tell us what. Or else.” This quote from Piggy on page 170 shows even after what he has been through he still views the conch as the last thing left representing order and the old way of life. Piggy never felt the rush of killing something that the other boys had experienced on hunting trips. His respect was the major factor in preventing him from becoming a killer. Under the right circumstances, where there is a lack of supervision or years of being the victim of bullying almost anyone can become a savage. Piggy is the…

When the boys all assemble, Piggy is the only one who tries to make an effort to learn their names: ¨Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. The children gave him the same simple obedience that they had given to the man with the megaphones”(Goulding 15). This quote relates him to a man with a megaphone, and in this way he symbolizes life back home. This means that when Piggy dies, all civilization is lost, along with the conch; "exploding into a thousand white fragments" (Goulding 209). Now, the boys are truly…

in the book lord of the flies, Piggy is treated like an outsider by all t the other boys on the island, mainly Jack. I personally think that the boys are treating Piggy that way because him and might be intimidated, Piggy is obviously very intelligent and i think all the boys had an idea of it when the were together for the first time and that's probably the main reason of the teasing because they know he's superior. In our society today so many people are treated like Piggy on a daily bases such as new kids at a new school, disabled people and people in different class systems. These people get hurt everyday because no one is there to help them, if this world is evolving and changing why is people hurting other people physically, mentally and emotionally still such a big issue ?…

Some people on this island just don't realize that they've got to put first things first if they ever want to be rescued. Today we could have been saved by a passing ship, had Jack and his stupid hunters paid attention to the rescue fire. You see, it's their job to maintain and watch the fire. Unfortunately, Jack and his hunters picked today of all days to neglect the fire and when a ship passed by the island, there was no signal to be seen because the fire was dead. When Jack and the hunters returned from their hunt, they were chanting a frightening chant and carrying a dead pig. Ralph reprimanded Jack for his lack of responsibility, and Jack got mad but he apologized. When I complained about the hunters' immaturity, Jack hit me real hard and broke one of the lenses of my…

    Eulogy of Piggy

Piggy was a thinker, the smartest kid I’ve ever known. It’s ironic to think that of all the boys, I knew Piggy the most and I do not even know his real name. I hurt’s me to think that I did not realize Piggy’s intelligence until it was almost too late. When we first met I laughed at him and teased him. If I could go back to that first time we met I would have probably still laughed at his confession of being teased as Piggy, but I would still want to know his name. Unfortunately, I will probably never know his true name, and even if I do I will never be able to call him by it. All the time on the island I really took Piggy for granted, his thoughts, his opinions. In the back of my mind I thought they would always be there, how wrong I was to think. I remember that first day clearly, it was far before most of us had spiraled out of control. While we were still innocent and naive. Piggy had seen me and he was the first boy I met on the island. We walked along the beach and found the conch shell that soon came to symbolize our new found society. Piggy had to tell me how to use it because of his asthma. He was the only boy at school with asthma and specs. I guess Piggy was always different from everyone else. Using the conch as he told me I blew and thus a meeting was called, the first meeting. The meeting was anything but organized, yet there was Piggy taking people’s names, the only one smart enough to think of knowing how many of us there were. But even he didn’t get that far, I didn’t give him the chance too. Later on when we set a bunch of dead wood on fire using Piggy’s specs and when Piggy noticed one of the younger boys or litluns was missing, I acted uninterested though deep down I knew I had failed that boy as chief. Piggy cared though, he made sure we were all clear on that, maybe he felt guilty as it was his specs to light the flame. But whenever he had tried to make things heard he was always opposed, mainly by Jack and even myself at times. I think that…
