Symptoms of this infection are usually mild.

Treatments:
E. vermicularis can be best treated by an anthelmintic drug called mebendazole. Albendazole, pyrantel pamoate, and levamisole may also be used to treat pinworms. A longer course of treatment would be the use of piperazine. First dosage of medication is to be taken the day it is administered and the second to be taken two weeks after. This two-week time span is to help kill any newly-acquired pinworms. There is NOT a vaccine obtainable for pinworms.

Prevention:
Pin worms can be prevented best by washing hands, keeping nails short, and sanitizing hands with soap and water frequently. To prevent re-infection, clothing, bedding, towels, and toys, should soaked in hot water. Dusty areas, floors, and furniture should be vacuumed well and any other contaminated surfaces should be sanitized. Infections caused by protozoa are contagious. Those protozoa that have inhabited the human intestine can be transmitted from one human to the other via the fecal-oral route, such as through sharing food the infected person has touched and through direct person to person contact. Protozoa living in the blood or tissue can be transmitted through a third source such as a mosquito. Infections are easily transmitted and persons carrying this parasite should avoid interactions with others, especially those with compromised and weakened immune systems.…

Dogs infected with Canine Heartworm Disease can have from 1 to 250 worms living in them for 5 to 7 years. The organs usually being affected the greatest are the heart and lungs and with each case the way it affects them is different. Some dogs only have an acute case; this is when no abnormal clinical signs are observed. The next level of the disease would be just a mild one were a cough is present. Dogs with a cough, exercise intolerance, and abnormal lung sounds would have a moderate form. The last and most severe form is when the dog is experiencing the previously mentioned clinical signs and/or,…

The fungus takes advantage of skin belonging to those with reduced immune capacity; keep in mind that skin must be abraded to become infected.² A carrier of ringworm is one that is infected but not showing lesions or one that is simply carrying the fungus on its fur in the same way an inanimate object might have fungal spores on its surface. Both types of "carriers" must be identified as they are both capable of spreading the infection.² Most dermatophytes are readily transmitted to other susceptible host by contact and contamination of the environment.⁴ Fluorescence can appear on the fur within 7 days of exposure and clinical signs within 2 to 4 weeks.⁴ In humans, the incubation period is 1 to 2 weeks.⁴ Under most circumstances, dermatophytes grow only in keratinized tissue, and advancing infection stops on reaching living cells or inflamed tissue.³ Transmission between host usually occurs by direct contact with a symptomatic or asymptomatic host, or direct or airborne contact with its hairs or skin scales.…

thiabendazole, albendazole, and mebendazole) and is commonly used to treat soil-transmitted helminth infections (Bethony et al. 2006; Geary et al. 2009). Generally, these drugs efficacy is due to its selective binding to β-tubulin of the nematode impeding the microtubule polymerisation of the parasite (Dye and Walker, 2007) and inhibition of the fumarate reductase enzyme responsible for energy generation (Barragry, 2011). As a result of tubulin polymerization inhibition, cellular transport and energy metabolism (i.e. digestion and absorption of nutrients) is reduced, which in return starve the parasite and eventually killing it (Vercruysse and Claerebout,…

Prior to the examination of parasites, samples were acquired from children (with the consent of their parents or guardian)—two fecal samples and two slides with scotch tape that was dabbed in the perianal region of the subjects thrice first thing in the morning—and fecal sample from a dog. The slides with the scotch tape would determine the presence of Enterobius vermicularis in the subjects. The fecal samples were soaked in 10% formalin so as to kill the parasites and to preserve them. Each of the fecal samples was mixed thoroughly in the formalin, making sure that only small bits of the feces are left in the…
