Piper Saratoga Lab Report
Coefficient of lift. To achieve the overall result of the lift to drag ratio of the Piper Saratoga, first it is necessary to calculate the coefficient of lift 〖(C〗_L). To begin this process, the total weight of the aircraft needs to be calculated. With the passengers loaded and the remaining fuel on board, the Piper Saratoga weighed 3,311 pounds. Next, the non-standard density of the air at 5,000 MSL feet must be calculated. In order to do this, non-standard pressure at 5,000 feet MSL must first be calculated. Within the equation is standard day pressure at sea level (2116.2 psf), symbolized by P_0, the standard lapse rate (-.00356(°R)/ft), symbolized by a_0, standard day temperature at sea level (519°R) symbolized by T_0, gravity (-32.2 ft/s), symbolized by g, and the gas constant (1716(ft^2)/(S^2×°R)), symbolized by IR. When calculated, the pressure at 5,000 feet MSL is 1,760.63 psf. …show more content…
To calculate this, the outside air temperature at 5,000 feet must be converted to Rankin from Fahrenheit. Therefore, 52°F+460=512°R. Within the equation is non-standard pressure at 5,000 feet MSL (1,760.63 psf), symbolized by P, divided by the gas constant (1716(ft^2)/(S^2×°R)), symbolized by IR multiplied by the outside air temperature (512°R). When calculated the density (ρ) at 5,000 feet MSL is .00200 sl/(ft^3

The first table also shows the recorded time and weather in which our class collected the data during that particular day. The upper, middle, and lower transects are measured using meters. Each of the transects are first measured by width and then by depth on the: Left edge, mid-stream, and right edge. Then there is description on the substate and the site on both the upper and middle transect.…

The Ideal Gas Law equation is PV=nRT. “P” stands for pressure, “V” is for volume, “n” gives the number of moles, “R” is the gas constant and “T” is for temperature. The ideal gas constant value is 0.082057 (L x atm)÷(mol x K). The purpose of the experiment was to be able to measure the temperature and the mass of each gas tested, to configure a constant and determine which gas is the most “ideal”. To configure “R” the equation will be, R= PV ÷ nT.…
