The clip starts off with a medium close-up of Jack, screaming. This close-up can show how frustrated he is at this point, which makes the women stop throwing fruits at him. It shows next both of the women, in individuals close ups. They were close-ups to them as it is the expression in their face that is important rather than them together. Making it individual shot shows different expression which gave a sense of continuity of the situation. The first one gives a motion of stopping while the second one give this expression of shock, which builds up to the next shot. The next one is a long shot of Jack. It shows the awkward situation he now is. The shot was purposely made so that he is in profile, making it possible to see all the fruits stuck. It is then emphasised by a medium close-up of jack, turning his head to the camera as if he tell the camera how ridiculous this is. the fact all those shot were showed in a five-second range give an idea of how the time …show more content…
passes quickly, and almost as if there is no time.
It changes scenes to the crew in the water.
It starts off with a shot of them finishing to hide in the cave. This makes a continuity of what happened previously, so it is understood that their action is still going on, and no laps time has passed. It then shows a slightly wider angle showing them all, which gives a feeling of how cramped they are. It then shows a much wider shot which show the top of the cave, giving the visualisation of where they are exactly. The camera then moves to a diagonal tilt to show exactly where the top entrance of the hole/cave is. This also shows how small they are and how vulnerable they are. The cannibals then arrive as the camera stop
moving.
Another scene which is interesting is when Jack falls off. It first is a long shot of him regaining his balance to a medium close up, showing he regained it but maybe not so much. The next shot shows Jack in profile, showing the fruits on the bamboo behind him. As the fruits start to slip, the camera follows to movement. The next shot is a close-up of jack with the bamboo in sight which starts off without fruit but then various slip to his face. Then there is a wide shot of him. It both makes a reminder of how close he was from the cliff and how the action of the fruits slipping back takes back the balance he had, making him go backwards.
All those shots give meanings either alone or together. This is why cinematography takes place in even random clips of a movie.
