“The Pit and the Pendulum” is a short horror story. The story is set in the time of the Spanish Inquisition. Poe tells the story in a first person point of view. The story is a story of a man who is placed in a dark room. The man is sitting there. He is given a pitcher of spiked water. He drinks the water which causes him to lose consciousness. When he awakens, he is bound to a wooden bed. He notices the smell of burning iron when he awakens. When he is first awake, he notices he is in a square room. After he has been unconscious and reawakens, he is in the wooden bed. He uses old spicy food to rub all over his restraints. The rats that were accompanying him in the prison. Once he rubs the substance on the restraints, the rats gnaw
