Pit Bull Newspaper Report

On 04/25/17, at 10:35am, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to 1393 Hildreth Ave, on an injury-possible dangerous or vicious dog. I arrived at the location and was met by Columbus Division of Police (CPD) Officers. The CPD Officer stated that my victim (Da’Michael Johnson) was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital the CPD Officer stated that the dog was currently in the backyard of 1405 Hildreth Ave unsecure. I knocked on the door of 1405 Hildreth Ave and received no answer. I went to backyard of that location, and saw a grey and white pit bull lying down not chained up. I slowly approached the dog, the dog got up and proceeded to charge me I utilize my Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray to prevent the dog from attacking me. I try to utilize my control pole to get the dog under control. I was unable to get close enough to place the control pole around the dogs head.
As I waited for the second deputy warden to arrive, the pit bull sit down, I would than slowly approach the pit bull; I would get within 4-5 feet of the pit bull and it would charge at me. I utilized my OC spray 4 additional times to prevent the dog from attacking me. Additional CPD Officers arrived on location to keep the area secure. Deputy Warden S. Fletcher arrived on scene and assisted me with capturing the dog. CPD Officers alerted me that someone was in the house. CPD Officers knocked on the door; eventually two minors answered the door. Due to the circumstances where there was no adult at the residence, I impounded the dog. The dog did not or was not displaying a Franklin County dog license.
