What type of tests do they run to confirm issues if your doctor suspects that you may have an issue with your pituitary gland? Your doctor will order a blood test. You may also undergo an MRI of your pituitary gland to check for any abnormalities. One such blood test is to check your level of T4 hormones. If you are low in this hormone it is due to the release of thyroid stimulating hormone or TSH that stimulates your thyroid gland to release the T4 hormone. As an example of this, my thyroid went haywire for a brief time over producing the T4 hormone sending me into hyperthyroidism. This caused my heart to race; I would spontaneously break out in sweat and lose my breath while simply walking from the front door of my house to the mailbox. This felt like a mild panic attack. With careful monitoring and several more blood tests my T4 levels did return to a more normal range, however, I do still have hyperthyroidism.
