older, you may become inacapable of some things you were before. Both poems expain feelings towards other people and how the person feels towards the speaker. How would you feel if people pitied you as you got older? Maya Angelou doesn't want people to pity her as she grows weaker and older with time.
She doesn't allow people's pity to get to her since she knows that she should be grateful for the air that she is breathing.
Maya's poem “Life Doesn't Frighten Me” speaks out about being afraid of what life throws at you. Angelou doesn't want to be scared of the journey that is life. Now, when your life is increasingly getting shorter as the days go by, would you want people to pity your last breath or celebrate it? Celebrating it might be the way to go with Angelou, because she wants to be thankful for the last gulp of oxygen her lungs get. Most people who bother with feeling bad for other people every second of the day probably tend to have lower self-asteem. Now, I'm not saying go out and don't worry about your surroundings and never feel sorry or care for someone or something that needs to be lifted. In Maya's poem, Life Doesnt Frighten Me, she explains that whatever is thrown at her, you can't make her scared. Life throws many issues at us such as getting older, worrying about money, caring for family and many other stressful things. But, this poem is here to teach you that you shouldn't be afraid of life's moments. There's always a way to look at it where it might take a more positive toll on you. Like in Angelou's On Aging, she looks at the positive side towards the end by saying “But ain't I lucky I can still breathe in.” She has a great perspective on her life by glancing over the great thing in her
life.
Overall, be glad at what life throws at you because at least you're still breathing to see these things. Yes, it may get increasingly hard, but you are pretty lucky to be taking in air. Both poems tell how difficult life can be, but at the same time tell us how fortunate we are. Life shouldn't scare you, nor should it bring you down. Life should be a thing you are grateful for and thankful for everything.
