Before starting our presentation, I would like to show you a picture. Have you ever seen this logo before? Do you know what is this logo representing? This is a logo of the environment levy scheme on plastic shopping bag. You can found this logo at the cashier in the supermarket and some department stores. A probable reason for us to show you this picture is it is related to our topic, implementing the plastic bag tax is beneficial to Hong Kong.
I’m going to divide our presentation into three parts. Firstly, I will start with the introduction providing some brief background information about the environment levy scheme on plastic bags. Secondly, I’ll describe the rebuttal point of the plastic bag scheme, which is about the effect of changing the living style of the people. Thirdly, for the discussion of the benefits of implementing the plastic bag tax, we will discuss them in three different aspects. I’ll move on to the discussion part of environment aspect. After that, sliver will give you the presentation talking about the benefits in international and economical aspect respectively. Finally, she will deliver a conclusion and have a Q&A section. Our presentation will last for 10 minutes and there is a 3 minutes of Q&A part.
Since there are around 8 billion plastic bags are disposed of at landfill at every years, the indiscriminate use of plastic shopping bags is a major and visible environmental problem in Hong Kong. To address this problem, the Environment protection department introduced the environment levy scheme on plastic shopping bags on 7th July in 2009. A total of 2000 shops participate into this campaign including the major supermarket such as the Wellcome and ParkNshop. The pubic need to pay 50 cents of Hong Kong
