As a child, I had crooked teeth and an underbite. Being self-conscious about my smile, I never showed my true emotions. Through the use of a palate expander, braces, and elastics, my orthodontist was able to correct my crooked teeth, which increased my self-confidence. My most profound moment during my trip was when we were leaving to go back to Vancouver, a little girl Yosemarie smiled and whispered “Gracias!” Ever since I left, “Gracias!” has remained a constant reminder that I want to find a professional job that will allow me to serve others. The thought that just by teaching Yosemarie English, she was grateful fulfilled my internal satisfaction and made me realize that I want to be a pediatric dentist.
