Essay On Internship Experience
When I started my internship at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC), which lies in the foothills of snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro in Moshi, Tanzania, I developed my clinical hands-on experience. I helped diagnose and manage a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, from the very common to unusual and complicated cases. I embraced every opportunity not only for patient care, but also the development of my clinical problem solving skills as well as presentation. As days went by, learning became easier. while discussing cases with my colleagues, residents and attending, I came to understand that it is impractical to know everything in medicine, but that built my confidence to improve my basic steps in the management of …show more content…
I would try to exhaust all the possibilities before discussing with attending . During my employment as well as my first year residency I had opportunity to work with interns and medical students, to contrast on our abilities, doing a thorough examination and coming up with plan on management. It was astonishing to know how far I have reached in my training and how much further I have to go.
As being a class representative, I, not only was in involved in a life of medicine but beyond that I was involved in class organization, communicating with professors and tutors on the class schedules, attended meetings and played active role in class decision making and at the end I was proud to be patted by my dean and introduced as the most hardworking, smart and active class representative she has ever worked with.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, this journey confirmed that I made a right choice to become a physician. Despite the long hours and the stress, I still enjoyed the struggle and its challenges. Now that we are settled here, I enthusiastically look forward to resuming my pursuit of a career in medicine. This has been a lifelong aspiration of mine and the opportunity to apply to pursue this part of the world is a real dream come

I can remember when I did my undergrad internship at a rehabilitation center; the Physical Therapist explained to me that if a person has ruptured their Achilles tendon, calf raises were one the best exercises. This exercise was potentially one of the best due to it strengthening the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. He also explained that many runners should focus on strengthening exercises, simply because of the wear and tear running they are more susceptible to this type of injury.…

Ever since I transferred to the University of Miami as an undergrad, I have had the gratification and honor to meet and work with various remarkable people, from physicians to scientists and staff. Doing research and shadowing at Miami Miller School of Medicine gave me the prospect to admire how marvelous the school and its community are. Furthermore, I have had the satisfaction to meet several professors who teach at the medical school and the prospect of learning from them is enticing. Being able to experience first-hand the compassion and care that the doctors at Miller demonstrate their patients have also confirmed that this school is not short of role models for me to follow. Additionally, I have met several students who have shared their…

I want to be a part of HSTE II because in the future I want to be a doctor. Right now I’m not very sure about what kind of doctor I want to be that is why I really want to be in this program so that I can experience all the parts in a hospital and find what kind of areas in the medical field that I’m really interested in, and which ones just don’t fit me and my interests. I don’t want to choose a path that I will end up regretting just because I don’t enjoy what I do. I am a person who loves to help and care for people, especially the people who really need the help, and I am a very quick learner. I always try to put myself in other person’s position because believe in the saying “Treat others the way you would like to be treated”. I intend to bring these major qualities of mine to the HSTE II class/clinical rotations because I think it is very important for someone in the medical field who attends to other people when they are at their lowest and weakest point to have these…

Although, my educational interest is the catalyst for my pursuit of becoming a doctor; my motivation emanated from more than just wanting to learn how to assess and treat many different conditions. August 31, 2015 is a day I will never forget. My grandmother called and informed me that my mother had just gotten into a car accident. She told me that the car flipped about four times, immediately there was a multitude of thoughts and emotions running through my mind. Arriving at the hospital, I was scared, dejected and very anxious. Walking into the room, seeing my mother in a neck brace and groaning in pain instantly brought tears to my eyes. I…

This experience taught me numerous new things that shaped who I was and altered the way I returned to my community, Los Angeles. The most important thing I learned at this internship was the ability to “fit into” this new way of life. While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. I also learned from this internship how to properly communicate with new people in general, but also with people who may not be familiar with my own culture and lifestyle. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life.…

Medical Ethics class was out of the ordinary. It was an easy going class, but at the same time opened my eyes to many different issues that go on in my country and how the medical system works. This class gave me the chance to become familiar with rules and regulations of the medical field, which I believe is extremely important for our future as physicians in the U.S. if we want to practice there. This shows that even though it was not an ordinary class, with exams, and professor’s sense of humor, I can honestly state that we learned a whole lot.…
