My Internship Essay

This experience taught me numerous new things that shaped who I was and altered the way I returned to my community, Los Angeles. The most important thing I learned at this internship was the ability to “fit into” this new way of life. While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. I also learned from this internship how to properly communicate with new people in general, but also with people who may not be familiar with my own culture and lifestyle. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life. I am naturally a curious person who is intrigued by new things that I may not be familiar with and seem foreign. I believe that this characteristic of mine allowed me to successfully enjoy my time in West Virginia and paved a way for me to meet and connect with several unique students, My curiosity fueled my interest to learn and engage with the new things I was being confronted with because I wanted to be in the know and craved the idea of something new. I also believe that this characteristic, as it played out in my internship, will play out in my time abroad. It will inspire me to bring myself away my comfort zone and indulge in the new space and life I
would like to move into. I will also have such an interest to engage with the host culture that I would throw myself at any opportunity to experience the unfamiliar culture and learn something new. As described in my time in West Virginia, this interest will allow me to successfully interact with the people of this unique location and learn so much from the relationships I hope to build. This opportunity to study abroad is an opportunity that I value so dearly because I understand its importance when it comes to expanding who I am as a person. Also this once in a lifetime experience will allow me to continue doing something I resonate with so closely, and that is meeting new people and expanding my horizons on different lifestyles and people who don't live the way I do or the people I interact with on a daily basis. My experience away at this internship has opened my eyes into realizing that the world I live in is just lived by a few people.
It has allowed me to become aware of the diversity that lives outside of my community. This internship has also helped me realize that although adapting to a whole new culture and way of life is difficult, it is beneficial to encounter these challenges that help me grow as a person. These challenges pushed me to gain many new skills that I believe will help me while abroad in
Copenhagen.
