Since starting college here at IUPUI, my circle of friends has become incredibly diverse. I have created friendships with those who differ from me in their sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and nationality. Learning from them and

They yelled, and ran, all over the place. My fear just got worst.…

Every day is filled with numerous activities as the hospital is a level one trauma center located between suburban and urban areas. I chose to work nights to gain more responsibilities and autonomy. My responsibilities include transporting patients throughout the hospital system. I have learned to communicate with a diverse population and explain my role with regards to care. Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…

This experience taught me numerous new things that shaped who I was and altered the way I returned to my community, Los Angeles. The most important thing I learned at this internship was the ability to “fit into” this new way of life. While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. I also learned from this internship how to properly communicate with new people in general, but also with people who may not be familiar with my own culture and lifestyle. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life.…

If given the opportunity to become an RA it would not be a position I would take for granted. While some scheduling and lifestyle changes may be necessary, I know that I could handle the new responsibilities. Over the three semesters I have been at school my schedule has changed significantly each new term to manage my obligations, whether those were classes, work, or campus clubs. I understand the importance of being available for my residents and it would be my first priority to be on hand if needed. While school work and personal time are always going to be part of a college student’s life, spending time in the dorms with my door open, for example, would allow me to combine being accessible and my other responsibilities. Like any job, sometimes…
