Cupcake Brown has led a life filled with so many wrong doings. After the death of her mother, she was sent to foster home after foster home, which were filled with abuse. She continuously ran away from home. She eventually turned to drugs, alcohol, hustling, gangbanging, and prostitution. Despite all of this, she eventually brings herself back on track as she reaches for a new goal.
Themes and Issues
Addiction: It didn’t start off as something planned, in fact it was quite unexpected. Cupcake had her first real taste of liquor at the age of 11. Her father, whom she calls sperm-donor, had taken her from her ‘daddy’ (the person she believed to be her dad all her life) and her Uncle Jr. She and her brother were given custody to their said father, who just so happened to dump them in a foster home when he found out they wouldn’t be getting any …show more content…
It wasn’t just the world however, she was angry at people, the people who failed to protect her, as well as the ones who hurt her. She was angry at god even, she felt as if he had allowed it all so happen, and so she hated him for it. She held so much anger inside of her, yet she didn’t realize how much she held. She took to drugs and liquor, preferring to party all night rather than seek help like some wanted her to. She hated school and no longer cared, by the time she was around 16 she simply stopped going. During that time, she had suffered many pregnancies, which all seemed to end up in miscarriages or more often than not, abortions. She eventually convinced herself that she wasn’t a junkie because she was able to get a job (which she lied to get) with a G.E.D (which she had a former friend fake) at an attorney’s office. She spent every dime she had on drugs, even the money she had acquired from her mother’s insurance, every single cent.
