Despite some people arguing that television has been a destructive force in our society, it is still one of the most important sources of information. Television plays an important role in our everyday lives providing us with tons of news, movies, shows, documentaries, sports, and live transmissions from all over the world.
There only a few families among millions that do not have a TV set in their homes for various reasons such as financial incomes, disinterest on television, fear for their children getting distracted, etc. But for the other portion a television is still a very important part of their lives. Many people gather around the TV after work or after a long day and enjoy some minutes in front of it whether it is watching the news of the day or simply watching a movie.
Many would argue that television is not relevant anymore simply because of the easy access to the internet, but there are a lot of people who use modems and thus are not able to browse a video –film, news, or a funny video- without having to wait for the video to load or download. “And television presents content in the most watchable format: high definition, which offers a picture quality that most of computer screens don’t” (Greenblatt). Many believe that new technologies and sources are taking people’s attention on television but Greenblatt also stated that although there is a lot of competition going on between the new media and television, the viewership of traditional television programming continues to rise.
One of the main advantages of this means getting information is its simplicity and convenience. With this comes also one of the problems which people state to be dependency and to diminish this problem, people can simply take up a sport, manage their time more efficiently and constraint themselves into what is good or bad with their own free will.
Television also opens many doors for people with many great qualities to work.
